Roomba - or a variation of it

This may be better suited for another board, so admins please move it if you want.
Who can give me their experience with the Roomba or other automated vacuums? We don't mind shelling out the money for one if it will be able to pick up short short dog hairs as well as the standard floor debris.
We live in a two bedroom apartment. Hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining room and carpet through out (except bathrooms)
They vary a lot in price so if anyone can include model and what price range that would be great.

Neato is better than Roomba. I love Rosie, my Neato.

I'm not particularly tied to Roomba and am open to other brands. What makes it better in your opinion?

Neato and it's not close. Best $400+ I've spent in a long time. Would buy again if I had to for some reason.

The main difference between the two and in my book, a huge difference is in the way it cleans a room. The Roomba drives around like a bumper car zig zagging about. The Neato scans the room first then goes back and forth. This cleaning method is better.

Bought the wife a neato for Christmas and it's legit. Only problem is that it is very loud on hardwood floors

Get the pet hair brush for hard woods. It's so much quieter

We use our roomba almost daily. We have three (albeit smaller) dogs that all shed to some degree and it saves our house from becoming a furball overnight. It doesn't replace a good broom and we still mop regularly, but you don't feel like you need to nearly as much.

Anybody have long term issues with Neato?
We have one, but it effectively died on us. The charger was hit by lightning (well house was). They replaced it for free, which was awesome, but a few months later it stopped taking a charge and won't power on.

Love my Roomba. It keeps me company while I'm doing the dishes, wiping countertops, etc. I hate vacuuming so it really has been great. I let it run 1-2 times a week and it does a very good job.

I am also interested in getting an electronic maid.
I have been doing a little research and it seems that the Neato XV-21 is a great deal at $259
Does anyone have experience with that particular model, or any other competitors in that price range?

I love my Neato, except when my dog got sick and went potty in the house and the Neato dragged it all over the place. Washed the neato and it hasn't been the same since. Need to get a new one when I see one on Woot/Groupon/etc.

XV-21 and XV-11 are the same thing but the 21 has the pet brush. You can replace the plastic brush with the bristle brush

I received a neato for christmas and it was not something I asked for or ever would have considered buying. I thought those things were gimmicky and crappy, frankly.
I was wrong. The neato is freaking awesome. I run it once a week while I'm at work. it's legit. The rugs have clean vacuum lines like someone went over it in lines with a nice standup vacuum.

I convinced my sister and a friend of mine to get a Neato. They both thank me for it.

Would yall recommend Roomba 620 or the Neato XV-21?
I don't have any pets but 90% of my house is hardwood or tile and collects dust like a sumbitch.
Roomba 620 on Amazon going for $275 + 20 shipping
Neato XV-21 going for $259 free shipping

Look like the Neato will be the one to go with - especially since they are at a lower price range.
I've had the dog get sick thing happen before. I can't imagine the mess the vacuum made
