My backyard has at least 20 different non-St. Augustine plants coming up. I applied weed-free zone Sunday. How long does it take to show results? Was I too late and was it too warm?

Weed free zone's main ingredient is 2,4-D so you should see results in just a few days after application.
(You're safe to apply it up to 90°)

My St. Aug is so aggressive I might just go back over with roundup on the just the spots that won't die. It will come back pretty quick if I accidentally kill some.

So I just bought one of those soil test kits from lowes. Not sure if they are worth a shite but I need some help. Front yard is a weedy mix of st Augustine, centipede, and bare spots. Back yard is in pretty good shape. St Augustine with only a few bare spots mainly because of no sunlight. Both front and back yard showed a ph of around 5.5-6. They also showed to be very low in N and P, while K seemed to be normal or even a little high. Should I start with lime now? Then put down a fertilizer? TIA.

BUMP
< Houston.
I put down my lawn weed preventative last week. All the broad-leave weeds appeared to be wilting or turning brown when I walked around in the yard Monday.
But we've gotten 6"-7" of rain since Tuesday night. Is that going to give my weeds new life before my St Augustine has a chance to take over? Should I apply more?

If you have seen the plants wilting, the chemical has been uptaken. Most chemicals won't be affected after about 2 days.

Too wet to spread weed killer in st aug? Rained it's arse off that's few days but should be dry and sunny for the next few. Can I spread the weed killer this afternoon after the sun drys things out a tad?

I sprayed weed b gon a couple of times over the last few weeks. Since I did that is there any need to use something like weed and feed or should I just use a feed? If just a fertilizer, which one. I believe I have centipede by the way and I'm in Gonzales if this makes any difference to anyone

How can I find out what type of grass I have? I want to treat the yard for weeds but I'm not certain about the grass.

Guys, email me at w0220501@selu.edu
I'll try to get with you asap. If you're close enough, I'll try to come to you.
Right now, your preemergent from the fall should be carrying you until April. If you didn't apply a preventive, you're looking at winter broadleaves. Trimec, Speedzone, WeedFreeZone, etc should take care of that. Poa annua, or Winter bluegrass is probably rampant, but don't worry about killing it- warm weather will do that. Just prevent next year. Crabgrass germinated early this year with the mild winter...usually an annual to prevent.

Scott's lawn service will come give you an estimate for their services for free and will tell you what you have.
they told me to kill everything and start all over

No way that's ever an option...I turned a hay field into a ball field in just two growing seasons. Granted, it's no Celebration variety Bermuda turf, but I manage the existing Bermuda good enough with growth regulators to make it viable for Dixie youth play.

What is the best ratio of fertilizer for centipede? I recall reading somewhere that the first number not being very high is important for centipede.
Posted on 3/18/16 at 5:43 pm to TigerTatorTots
More than 1# of nitrogen per year will onset centipede decline...Centipede is called the lazy man's grass for a reason, you can fertilize it to death. A good general for centipede is 0-5-15. I fertilize with 0-5-15 twice a year, once in the spring and once in early fall. This is my centipede going into the fall last year
Centipede is pretty forgiving, especially compared to something like turf Bermuda

What do you suggest for the "weed" portion of weed & feed. I know this forum is anti weed and feed, but I have a good bit of clover popping up and weed & feed (Bonus S) at my old home would knock it out. 4 days ago I put out crabgrass and grassy weed killer (Scotts Halts). I still need to take care of the clover and then fertilize if you don't suggest me using Bonus S again. Too much area for a 24D hand sprayer
ETA- I think Bonus S is 29-0-10

I've got hard, compacted dirt. I've got 3 massive water oaks with associated root systems and TONS of shade. I need to get them trimmed, till and lay sod I guess but if I do all of that and the sod dies, I'm going to be very unhappy. It feels like gambling to me.
