This is probably not the right place, but I am about to graduate from LSU (poli sci) and have no clue what I want to do. I love the outdoors, I have some military experience, I am not looking to do law school. I am looking to see if anyone here could help jumpstart my thinking.

Damn boy, you are supposed to decide that before you pick a major, not after you graduate...

Surveyor
I always thought if I quit my current profession and wanted to get outside, I would go to surveying.

Go to grad school if you can get funded

True but with the amount of laid off experienced hands looking for work it would be tough.

Take a few years off and hire out as a hunting guide. Enjoy life hunting for a few years then bounce to an island somewhere and be a fishing guide/ Bartender.... Ahh the life.....

Until you're 45 and bartending with no family

Go find Rodgers thread and move to Alaska for the summer. That's what I would do.

I would love to be a hunting guide if I had it to do all over again but remember no matter how much you love it, it still becomes a job.
When you have to guide a big wig millionaire who has never shot an animal and still wants to tell you what to do, it's not fun, it's about money.....
and I think that's what kept me from doing it.

If you can, now is the perfect time to get in. Cause it's coming off of a valley. The wrong time to get in would've been 3-6 months ago.

National Forest Service
With military expeience you are ahead of the civi's who apply. Wife works for em, seems pretty laid back. You could be a pao or something like that. Any like the military you can move around the country. If you try and get a lesser paying job, get it. Once your in you can move up and around. My wife has no college and started as a gs-1, now she's a gs-7. Not big money, but you get all the benny's.

Along with morticians, will be the last profession on the planet still working.
