Whaaaaa? On this board? Never!

My complaint isn't about the specific game, just an all too common occurrence this season. Up against Dwight it's Wrestlemania, guys like Steven Adams and Whiteside have gotten paint position too easily.

But, pointing out that he wasn't awesome for 48 minutes isn't being negative. If a guy's ONLY paid to rebound and defend, then its fair to note when he's not defending for 3/4 of the game. Just watch the game, it was obvious. The box score doesn't tell the whole story.

He's lucky he wasn't called for a foul. I thought his left hand was riding Whiteside's back.
He's also lucky Wade missed the 3 or else there'd be 150 threads on how fricking dumb the dude is throwing the ball out of bounds.
I'd rather have to deal with teaching Ajinca how to play better defense w out fouling than have to teach Asik how to catch the ball.

That was not all on him.

Whiteside isnt a good matchup for Asik. shite, he isnt a good matchup for the majority of NBA centers. He's quick and wiry. He's going to find open looks against the Asik's of the world. Fact still remains, you can let him get his points. As long as Wade, Dragic, Deng arent getting off you will win the game, which is evident since the Heat of like 5-10 since Whiteside starting getting minutes. A bunch of empty stats that look good for fantasy purposes. He's a good story, but cmon.
We won the fricking game and our own fans want to fluff Whiteside, while Anjica and Asik combined 11-13 shoointg for nearly 30 points
Asik "outworked" and outrebounded Whiteside and held him to 5 less boards than normal, all while playing less minutes.

competent NBA centers are hard to come by...we have one and the makings of another if he could stop fouling and play better defense
asik for 22-25 minutes and ajinca for 18-20 would be ideal. you will see the front ofc pull out all the stops to re sign asik, and likely the response will be that it was an overpay
previous moves have been criticized due to opportunity cost, but this team has only extended one player of note so far (Gordon). the opportunity cost argument doesn't fly there, because he was an up and comer and a potential core player. Asik is the same due to market scarcity and this teams particular needs
you can go back and at we should have just kept Lopez but that's in the rear view mirror
asik will be on this team and starting if the team has it's way

That's the case in a nutshell, imo. Teams will pay a lot of money to a true center with decent skills.

I don't think Asik will be happy with that. And I don't know if you want Ajinca playing that many minutes with his fouling prowess. But if you could fix those issues and get them both for about $16M, that would be great.
They need to figure out what Ajinca can really give them over the rest of the season. Also curious if they will ever let Davis play the 5 for small stretches with favorable matchups. At some point, many teams in the playoffs go small. I'm not sure you can survive with Davis + Asik/Ajinca in those series.

Just depends on what they offer. If it's more than 4/$48, I'll probably think it's an overpay.
Asik is good at what he does. He has holes, but any realistic replacement has holes too. Ajinca certainly has holes. Whomever they get, people will bitch about all the things he can't do.
This roster right now is interesting. Not sure how high the ceiling is, but there is some balance and some solid depth. Would love health to let them marinate some.

I certainly think you'll see AD at center in the playoffs when teams go small...to me ajinca is a regular season player who'll be an 8 minute player in post season, which is fine
gotta get there first
what I don't want to see is wholesale changes to this roster this offseason. if that means more Monty than so be it. once they secure asik and ajinca everyone that matters will be back for what hopefully will finally be a healthy run

Let's not act like Ajinca knows how to catch. EG is on my fantasy team and in games where AD is out he averages at least 1 extra turnover per game from Ajinca not being able to catch passes.

Pretty much the bottom line.
I know most of our fans only watch the Pels. I wish they could see the others centers some teams trot out there outside of the studs. Hell, even the really good ones have holes in their game.

That's a good point. Its hard to not take for granted that AD is a once in a lifetime big man in terms of coordination. Outside of Tim Duncan, its just absurd to think 7 footers will have the coordination of guards.

The average Asik hater is definitely overestimating how easy it will be to find a replacement that won't be a huge drop off.

Ajinça has been at his best playing an AD-like role when AD is out. Go look at his stats when AD plays vs. Asik
