That screen he used on deng above to get EG space is something he is very good at doing.

People whine about his stone hands and whatnot but things like the above are one thing he really brings to this team that doesn't show up in the box score.

Whiteside ate his lunch all night, but he earned his salary on that last defensive stop.

Almost all centers are but he'd be worth 9 mil imo.

His salary is not bad, I just hate how we lost a first round pick for him

Centers don't really grow on trees

He's going to get 9-10 mil somewhere.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are completely clueless about the state of the center market. The only way to get cheap and good is to get a guy ready to break out, and for every Mozgov, Lopez and Koufous, there's a Kyrylinko. Or you draft one, but for every Steven Adams and Gorgui Dieng there's a Cole Aldrich or Meyers Leonard.

Demps has hit in the up and coming market before with RoLo and now possibly Anjinca, but it's still a hit more miss process, and you'd think if he had one of those moves he felt would be an adequate Asik replacement in his back pocket he'd use it. Short of that our choices seem to be limited to

Asik
Koufos

Dalembert

Stiemsma

Unless you're confident with an aging Dalembert as your cheap starting center, and he has lost a starting job to Cole Aldrich and Jason Smith and will be 34 next season, so I'm not sure why you would be, there really aren't many options. Asik, Koufos or trade are the realistic choices I see. We're not getting Gasol or Jordan or even Chandler or Jefferson. I'd like to see them take a serious look at Koufos, but depending on how the market shakes out, Asik may well be our best choice. Give him a declining deal that will be favorable to trade in a few years, like 3/$30 starting at $11 this year that ends with a $9 team option in year 3. That should make him fairly tradable as early as year 2 if we wanted to.

So what is your idea of an 8mil a year big man in the league nowadays?

Keeping in mind that in 2 years the cap is expected to jump by around 40% vs. this year. In other words $8 million today will be the equivalent of $11.2 million under the new TV deal salary cap.

Did he? Whiteside played 33 minutes and grabbed 7 rebounds, his lowest output since he has been starting. He's averaging 12 RPG this month.

Asik grabbed 10 in 26 minutes. Whiteside thrives on cleaning up the offensive glass and scoring on put backs or dunks. He had 1 offensive rebound. Id say Asik and Ajinca did a pretty good job in the paint.

Whiteside had his hook shot working. I don't expect Asik to block a 7 footers hook, but it'd be nice if he would make it a 10-12 foot hook, not a 6-8 foot one.

Overall Asik was solid tonight.

I love the game Ajinca had tonight. However, several times Whiteside and Anderson got really good looks down low because Ajinca isn't as good as Asik on rotating back after being put in the pick and roll. Ajinca is by far a better offensive 5 than Asik and I hope we keep him next year, but Asik is still a much better post and help defender and rebounder.

ATL mentioned some of the catches Whiteside got under the rim, and it goes beyond that, too. Stuff that won't show up in the box score. Whiteside was outworking Asik.

We won the game, so it doesn't matter. But go to nba/ stats and watch Whiteside's first bucket. It basically captures Asik's night, until that last stop. Whiteside missed jumper. Asik makes a lousy effort at the rebound, Miami gets it. Whiteside re establishes 5 ft from the rim and Asik makes no effort to push him out. Easy jump hook.

Whiteside's next score, lob dunk off an inbound play. And it continues for most of the night...

The game saving play Asik made down the stretch was run because Whiteside had scored on that pnr for his two previous shots.

The difference this time is Asik hustled his arse off to cut off Wade's driving lane AND get all the way back to stop Whiteside at the rim.

Whiteside isnt a good matchup for Asik. shite, he isnt a good matchup for the majority of NBA centers. He's quick and wiry. He's going to find open looks against the Asik's of the world. Fact still remains, you can let him get his points. As long as Wade, Dragic, Deng arent getting off you will win the game, which is evident since the Heat of like 5-10 since Whiteside starting getting minutes. A bunch of empty stats that look good for fantasy purposes. He's a good story, but cmon.

We won the fricking game and our own fans want to fluff Whiteside, while Anjica and Asik combined 11-13 shoointg for nearly 30 points

Asik "outworked" and outrebounded Whiteside and held him to 5 less boards than normal, all while playing less minutes.

frickers love harping on negative shite even when we win games
