It was actually very useful running in the spillway... I could clearly see bank to bank. No need for a q beam. However it is useless in the fog and wide open water.
I sold the boat though.

You should be good. LED light bars on boats should be OB approved.

My buddy has a cheap Chinese knockoff on his boat 18-24". I think he paid $60 for it. It's really good for narrow canals and bayous, but like others said fog and open water is pretty useless.

Yep, I've seen a Chevy Malibu around Natchez with one mounted above the windshield.

I was actually about to order one to put on my boat. Would I have to relinquish my OB card if that happened?
Boats ok, trucks not so much.
Signed,

I'll let you know when the next round of voting occurs.
But, but, what if I put it on the T-Top. Oh, the horror.

As the unofficial official OB LED lightbar ambassador I'll compile a list of acceptable/nonacceptable light bar options.
OB Accepted Use:
Boats, T tops OK'ed
Trucks, in/on bumpers or push/bull bars. Small ones acceptable for reverse lighting purposes
Use on vehicles for work purposes
ATVs or UTVs, placement, style and quantity not regulated
OB Unacceptable Use:
Roof mounted light bars
Hood mounted light bars
Any 2WD vehicle not intended for work purposes
Questionable:
Kayaks or canoes, ruling still needed

You're right. I never need to see at night in my 2wd truck.

Acceptable
I use one on my Pro Angler when I get out on the water at night. Works wonders for navigating the marsh and does a phenomenal job attracting bait to the kayak. I've started taking a long handled dip net and scooping up cocahoes when needed. Easy to sight reds in the shallows as well.
It's somewhere between 5000-7000 lumens and puts my 150lumen headlight to shame.
I need to tinker with the mounting system a bit, but otherwise I think it was a great addition to the kayak.
