Waffle House becomes an unlikely competitor to FedEx and UPS

Waffle House wants in on the sharing economy. The US diner chain today announced a partnership with Roadie, a startup that aims to become the "Uber of package delivery." The app, which launched last month, lets travelers earn money by delivering packages to locations along their routes.
At the moment, users can send packages from within 10 states across the southeast US, and most packages are delivered door to door, but the company is looking to create a network of meeting places for users to hand off deliveries, which is where Waffle House comes in. With today's partnership, users will be able to meet and execute deliveries at the company's 1,750 diners across the US, which are open 24 hours a day. Waffle House will also offer a free waffle and drink to drivers making deliveries at their eateries.
"We're just bacon and eggs over here," Walt Ehmer, Waffle House's CEO, tells The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the partnership. "I've been amazed with the explosion of Uber and Airbnb and other technology that kind of enables people to get together and conduct business together."

Please let this happen! I would love to be able to have Waffle House delivered to my office right down the street.

Roadie is going to make shipping weed/narcotics hilariously easy

This won't be used for drugs...

So Waffle House will be a stop on the 21st Century Pony Express?

Now it's only a matter of time before Amazon buys Waffle House.

Not sure if I'd be comfortable with having a rando deliver my package to me.

Is that worse than having a rando drive you around? I do that all the time and its great.
I guess they could steal your shite, but I'm sure there are detailed records of who they are, where they go, and stuff like that. Probably more accountability than delivery companies.

In the old days (currently), FedEx delivers weed in a safe, timely fashion. A short time after, the receiver of said THC plant matter ends up at Waffle House... Taking out the middle man, I like this strategy.

I wonder if they will be delivering their whole menu? It seems like eggs wouldn't keep well for delivery, but I would love a Waffle House waffle delivered to my doorstep. I hope delivery costs aren't too high.

How is this much different than the UShip website used on the show Shipping Wars?

With that said, I don't think I fully understand how Uber works.

Roadie sounds like a spectacular idea.
I can definitely see some problems with execution... What happens if I send a friend drugs and my "Roadie" gets busted...?

Plausible Deniability? Like a tow company getting a work order for a junker with drugs in the trunk a la cocaine cowboys.
