I know there is a bourbon/scotch board, but I thought this deserved it's own thread.
It is pretty fricking smooth

May be an off one, but I think this wins the board for the day.

You know it doesn't age once it's in the bottle. It's still a 20 year old scotch

Thursday.
Seriously, I finished off my bottle of Balvenie 14 the other night and was out of scotch. Plus, I wanted to try it before inviting friends over to help drink it, make sure it wasn't bad.

Not true, it's stops aging but the flavor can change.

I have an old bottle of some god awful gin that was in my fathers liquor cabinet. Someone gave it to him with his name on it before I was born and I'm a very early 60's model. Seal never broken and it's only half full. Rotgut is evaporating.
I am finishing a 2002 Zinfandel I decanted last night and it is really nice.

lol no. it's the same scotch that it was 60 years ago.
wine can age and change flavor, but whiskey does not.

How would you know? You haven't been tasting it the in the last 60 years.

Ice and you waited 60 years. Damn

I actually don't know if scotch changes in the bottle or not, but wine 'ages' due to slow, long term chemical reactions that are facilitated by the semi permeability of the cork. I would expect that spirits would also change over time if the bottle is sealed with a cork.

If the flavor of whiskey changes in the bottle something is wrong with it

Maybe the normal 4 year old J&B, but not a 20 year old

yep
i imagine if it's 60+ years old, it had a cork, right?

it doesn't.
scotch ages due to reactions between it and the wooden cask it sits in.
opening a 60 year old bottle that was aged for 20 years doesn't make it a scotch that was aged 80 years.
