Have you ever had a family member struggle with drug abuse? (Updated)

My brother is addicted to meth and putting my parents thru absolute hell. Not a day goes by that I don't worry about them. They've tried everything (rehabs, meds) but he's not getting any better. What makes it worse is they've called the cops (when he's having hallucinations) and they can't really do much, it's a civil issue, and they can only arrest him if he hurts himself or someone else. They'll have to go thru a lengthy eviction process to get him out. It's such an awful situation. No one in my family has ever had issues with drug abuse before, it breaks my heart that he got into this lifestyle.
ETA: My brother had a full psychotic meltdown yesterday and attacked my parents. Fortunately they were able to fight him off and he took off running. The cops caught him late at night and he's in prison at the moment. I'm helping my parents out now with a restraining order against him. I hope none of you will ever have to go thru a nightmare like this. I'm just praying the cops send him to a mental ward.

Mine is pushing 40 now.
He is useless. If he does not drive my aunt to an early grave it will be the only positive thing he ever does in his life.

I hate to hear that. I had an ex wife that went thru something similar. My kids still have nightmares/issues about it.

Struggling with drugs has been by far the hardest thing in my 32 years I've dealt with.
Just know it doesn't mean he isn't a bad dude and he doesn't care. Be there for him, try to not judge, but don't enable him not a single bit.

I have a cousin who is currently on her 2nd rehab stint for an OxyContin addiction. I'm pretty well convinced at this point that she won't make it to 30. Add to it that she's bipolar and has a 6 year old son and it's fricking awful. I honestly don't know how my aunt and uncle are doing it. But I do know it's aged my grandmother something awful the past few years.
When she's sober she's genuinely a good person. But I have a hard time not hating her for what she's doing to our family.

1. he's gotta want to change
2. he's gotta get away from his drug-peers

They could get him arrested if they really wanted him out but that is a tough call for a parent. Sadly there is nothing you guys can do for him until he wants help, unless of course you are willing to get him locked up. I had a few friends on meth after HS and they all got cleaned up once they did some time but nothing else worked.

Your parents have to cut him off and move on with their life. Suggest they watch an Intervention marathon. See how each show is the same. Plan accordingly.
Only thing they EVER offer him is help with rehab if they have the means. And not cash. They pay for the rehab. He gets dick in the way of cash. Even paying his rent etc just means he has more cash to smoke up.
