Pretty much my stance. I live 50 miles from Norco and if I'm not getting paid for my time/mileage I don't think I'm going. Add to that, I haven't heard a peep from USW.

Norco is an RCCU and I saw on Facebook too that the unit had an upset and was flaring. Just hearing different stories as to what caused the upset. Seeing that makes me want to be in there helping get it back online.

Thanks. I just figured the flare would have had more pressure behind it with a power failure.

I agree, but that's what was told to me from someone who's locked in.

Yea I live the same distance and I'm not wasting my gas on a picket line. I will be going to the hall today at 5 so I can get some info regarding health care and such.

I can't remember exactly from when I left my last job and started as an intern, but I want to say COBRA sent me something the mail.

Think it is up in March but they have a 75 day no strike period after agreed upon in the last negotiations. I'm not 100% there though.

From what I'm told, our insurance runs out at the end of Feb and we can opt to get insurance through USW or Cobra. Obviously neither will be as good as through Shell.

Please post whatever you find out. Specifically if there are any repercussions of not picketing.

Funny quote, but from everything I have heard it really was a power failure from entergy. They have UPS backups so there was no real danger of any kind of unit trip. They had plenty of time to shut down safely if necessary.

You mean to tell me that the health insurance through USW is not as good as the insurance they are demanding for in negotions? Oh the irony

Well be the exact same insurance shell offers just without shell's discount. Think it's 2200/mo.

ETA that's what we were told at the meeting yesterday

USW probably isn't self insured, nor do they pull in the profits of a company such as shell, nor the amount of employees as shell.
