This thread is a great example of that. Religious threads were "banned" on the board...but what that means in reality is that threads that contained too much opposition to religion were getting RA'ed and they needed to go. Pro-religious threads are fine...and you can take swipes at atheists all you want. The minute someone returns serve, suddenly atheists are all loud mouthed and never shut up. It's comical really.
While I understand where you are coming from here, its posts like these that cause the problem:
quote:
But there is validity to this. It's not that someone disagrees with them, it's that someone cites 2,000 year old mythology or fairy tales that contradict modern science as their chief supporting evidence. That begets an appropriate response.
Its that fact that civil discussions weren't had because idiots like the guy I quoted couldn't post their point without trying to make fun of those that are religious. And that all goes back to the vocal minority of atheists that believe that they are better than everyone else, just like the vocal minority of crossfitters and vegans.
ETA: I don't think there are as many religious people in the US as you think. I think there are a lot more non believers than just 10%

All the atheists I know keep it to themselves unless around other atheists or agnostic people because they know its a faux-pas in the South to not be Christian.
I don't talk religion with anyone religious...ever. I change the subject. To each his own, I don't care what you believe.

And Christians often tell atheists that they're "missing something in life" or something stupid like that.
That's pretty harmless. I could probably be told the same thing from someone that loves skydiving, but I'm not gonna tell them that they're stupid for liking skydiving.

Funny and true.
Atheist are probably the worst of the three. A lot of them will protest something they "don't" believe in.

Crossfitters are the wort to me.
Atheists and Vegans don't fill my instagram and facebook feed with shite constantly.
Crossfit fail compilations are some of the best videos on youtube if you're bored.

Yeah but being a vegan is probably the dumbest of the three, so I'd put them as the worst

as an atheist the sign doesnt offend me, its funny. people are too sensitive imo.
i'll share an atheist story: someone i was having lunch with yesterday mentioned their top priorities in life are 1. god 2. fam 3. career, in that order. if i had interjected and mentioned that my priorities are 1. fam 2. career, it wouldve been taken as a personal insult by that someone. but i wasnt asked so i didnt interject. its something i think most atheists can relate to.
i personally detest atheists that think theists are dumb. Sir Isaac Newton might be the most brilliant human to ever live and he when he couldnt solve the 3-body problem he said it must be intelligent design. imo theism has nothing to do w/ intelligence. 85% of the world's leading scientists ar atheists, but what about the other 15%? they'd boat race me in a game of chess and have probably forgotten more than i'll ever know and yet they are theists. brians has nothing to do with it and i wish the vocal minority of atheists would shut their piehole.
with that being said, its been my experience that when religion comes up in convo i keep my mouth shut, but when asked about religion, i speak my mind and someone always gets offended.
i just ate a pound of meatloaf.

Fair.
It really is fricking stupid to be a vegan. Vegetarian? Fine, I can kind of get that. Vegan? Come the frick on. What is wrong with eggs and dairy products?

Calling it 2000 year old mythology is making fun of it?
Posted on 1/26/15 at 1:45 pm to Cap Crunch
Telling someone else what/how they feel is almost always stupid.
I see the "you just haven't opened your heart" and "there's a hole in your life and you know it" arguments on here a lot. That's retarded.

You don't think him calling Christian beliefs fairy tales was only to incite a reaction from people?
