When they start doing things without adult supervision, imo.

It varies by family and circumstances but anyone getting one before the "age" of need is ridiculous.

Exactly. My oldest is dropped off at dance for 4 hours here and there. Skating rink with friends. Overnights at friends and such. It's just common sense. I don't dig in her shite and track her but if she needs to reach me why the hell not? My boss gave me us all phones for same thing. Day and age of 100% contact.

I got mugged a few years ago. Didn't have my phone or wallet. I found out quickly that BR doesn't have pay phones anymore and none of the businesses let you call out of the area. Talk about feeling stranded.

I am of the opinion that you have to throw teenage kids to the wolves sometimes so they can see what they are made of and learn self-reliance. That is how entrepreneurs and capitalists are made.

Smartphones for kids comes with pros and cons.

They are convenient for parents but I have seen so many kids using them for not so great reasons.

That isn't that unusual though. Many young children have tablets now. Can easily entertain a child on long car trips or just in general. We got a tablet for our nephew when he was only 2, he loves that thing

The biggest problem I've seen is bullying. Hate that word but that's what they do. They talk shite ab each other and pass it around silently. Harder to discipline.

They also find strange boyfriends on Instagram.

I'd go with 13. They're still going to go out with friends alone at that age, to where it would be handy for them to have one. First grade though is ridiculous.

I'm thinking about when they start driving. They're kids in my kids first grade class with them. That's craziness IMHO.

you know they watch porn at a younger age now, probably around 4-5, I was 8 when I saw mine. My friend had a computer that his parents never cared about. Today, shiiit, im sure all the kids are fb porn videos.

To answer, 3 grade or one without wifi access

I got my first cell phone freshman year of college in 2001. I did not miss out on anything not having it before then. I think college age is appropriate. I don't think a high school kid needs a cell phone.

Sorry, but all kids who drive should have cell phones. In this day and age, it is simply irresponsible to not get your kid a call phone. Plus if you're not an overbearing parent, I think you'll allow your kids to go off on their own a bit when they turn 12 or 13, and if they need an emergency ride, then why not give them a cell phone?
