My take on Les and the QB situ (long)

I wanted to put my two cents in on this whole Les Miles/QB situation.
So we got the CLM PUMPERS on the one hand saying Les works with what he has and wins a ton of damn games, you people are insufferable.
Then you have CLM HATERS on the other hand saying the dude is horrible at QB decisions and is setting us back to the 70s and we need to move on now.
I figured I would do a little list and put forth my view which is, not to spoil the surprise, somewhere in the middle.
So, the way I see it is…
Yeah, Les Miles does work with what he has. That’s why our QB averaged passing 113y/game from the Auburn on (with an amazing high of 151 in the bowl game! Wow we aired it out). Miles just flat out didn’t have any real faith in passing the ball, because the team just doesn’t have the horses to do it. And we were running with authority for most of those games. When Mett and Flynn were here, fifth year seniors, we aired it out more. And Les has won a great number of games doing this, pulling way back on the reins if he feels it’s necessary. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THIS APPROACH.
However, the problem that I have with this is that LSU is an ELITE program. WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO SETTLE FOR THIS APPROACH. Not every year. We have more active NFL players than any other school right now and have had more underclassmen jump and get drafted than any other school the last two years. For ten years we have plugged and played Defensive Secondary players like they were extras in a movie. The abundance is unreal at practically every position.
Except QB???? What the hell? We have serious issues almost every damn year. The only time we have a decent one is when we are blessed with a 5th year senior and apparently from their rookie years, All Pro Wide outs. We either don’t develop guys or they develop extremely slowly. Even Mett wasn’t Mett until his 5th year. On top of that, Les is just a BAD QB talent evaluator and recruiter.
Here is your list of the illustrious QBs Les Miles has signed in 10 full recruiting seasons.
2014 Brandon Harris
2013 Hayden Rettig, Anthony Jennings
2012 Jeremy Liggins
2011 Zach Mettenberger, Stephen Rivers, Jarrard Randall
2010 Zach Lee
2009 Chris Garrett, Russell Shepard
2008 Jordan Jefferson
2007 Jarrett Lee
2006 n/a
2005 Ryan Perrilloux
Of that list (setting aside Brandon Harris as it’s so early in his career), there are only two that were/are even close to NFL QB talent, and when I mean close, I mean, can you even get invited to the Combine? IN TEN FREAKING YEARS. TEN YEARS of a program that supposedly is in the top 10 nationally as a program. Only the BOLDED ones have made it on the field for more than a two game span.
So ultimately, Les does the best with what he has, but what he has being a big pile of stinking “misery” (Les’ own word) IS HIS OWN FAULT.
It’s like Les created a pit of quicksand, drove the car into it, and now I am supposed to give him a pass that the car is in quicksand. Well Les is doing the best he can to get that out of there.
I am not a PUMPER or a HATER. I like Miles for the most part, but the reality is that, while he does adjust and try to do the best with less than great QB play, the reality is that it is his own damn fault that it’s an issue.
Any retard knows we are going to need a decent passing game to get back to beating Bama, winning SEC titles and getting into the Playoff. I have no faith that Miles will be able to pull that off on a consistent basis. Once every now and then when the stars align….maybe. But this is a real issue and problem that has only gotten worse in his tenure. So please stop telling me to shut up, or say I don’t know what I am talking about PUMPERS. I don’t want to hear that bull crap.
Okay. I’m done now. I guess I lean more to a HATER than PUMPER on that scale.

During that same time span, how many Bama QB's made it in the NFL? Only 3 Bama QB's have even been drafted while Saban has been there. Highest was Croyle in the 3rd round, the other two were McElroy in the 7th round and McCarron in the 5th round. Only McCarron is still on an NFL roster. Isn't Bama an elite program?
Does it really matter? Bama has proven that you can win in college football with sub-par non-NFL QB's. Just sayin.

Well, regardless of who people think conducts the evaluations for the QBs LSU recruits, our results are probably about average to above average relative to the rest of college football. It's not really as dismal as people like to think.
It's damn hard for most schools to find a QB worth anything. Some LSU fans just look at the very few schools that have unusually sustained success with landing/developing QB and think that's the norm. It's not.

Really? They are all his recruits that were heavily recruited by Miles and his staff.

1. its not on Jennings that Quinn dropped balls with the game on the line that would have kept drives alive. LSU 13-10 over Bama.
Win over Bama, whole team is energized.
Not sure about the play calling in the Miss State loss in which LSU has the ball on the 1 and does not give it to a HUGE back. Win those two, and you are playing for the SEC championship as co-champs of the SEC west, 10-2. SEC champs, again.
So, in the two close losses, it was not all on the QB. Not in my eyes.
2. Perilloux returning and playing in the national champ game vs Bama instead of JJ, maybe another national championship.
Not only that, with RP, LSU beats Bama in regular time, and Ok State gets to play LSU for the natty.

Why? I mean that sincerely. At this point, and in mid January, who do you think is sitting around on pins and needles waiting for yet ANOTHER armchair coach's assessment of the QB situation at LSU?
Posted on 1/20/15 at 12:55 pm to extremetigerfanatic
LSU needs a steady game - manager QB that can make good throws when needed.
That's not asking much

Last two qbs from LA to get drafted. Stefan Lefors, and Eli Manning. Neither came to LSU and both were before Miles.
Louisiana, besides rp, hasn't produce a qb good enough. Most of the good qbs from LA are playing wr or db in the NFL, one is going to be drafted as a rb this year.
Obviously HS football in LA is just diff. Even though we produce the most players per capita, it doesn't really tell the whole story. Let's say you get 3 wrs from LA drafted, well that's great and all, but that's not what's going to win you championships. same when 4 dB's from LA get drafted in one class. those are good numbers for the size of LA, but you can not win on LA talent alone.

I agree with a lot of stuff you said, but this is silly. For the record it doesn't matter if you have a good QB, you are not going to have many "NFL talents" in 10 years
Let's review some of the team QBs in the SEC over that span. I have no idea how many of these guys went to the combine, but 2 in a 10 year span is average. Also, you can't count Harris out yet.
LSU -
Russell
Flynn
Mett
(Perriloux would have, but yeaaaaah)
Bama 10 years - (Saban 8 years)
Wilson (meh kinda)
McElroy
McCarron
Auburn -
Todd
Newton
Arkansas -
Mallet
Wilson
MSU -
Russell
Prescott
Ole Miss -
Snead
Wallace
TAMU -
McGee (meh kinda)
Johnson
Tannehill
Manziel
USCe -
Garcia
Shaw
Thompson
UF -
Leak
Tebow
UGA -
Shockley
Stafford
Cox (meh, kinda, sorta)
Murray
Mason
Tennessee -
Ainge
Crompton
Bray
UK -
Woodson
Hartline
Mizzu -
Daniels
Gabbert
Franklin
Vandy -
Cutler
Les Miles QBs also own like 5 of LSU's top 10-11 passing seasons.
IMO, they strike gold with Harris who will be here for three more years.
