WOW !!! I hope this is accurate - Mike Detillier on Dandy this morning

Dandy asked him about Coach O and K Steele recruiting for 2016. This is what Mike D had to say about that:
" Scott, believe me, Coach O and Kevin will make a difference in 2015. Just watch. Coach O knows the players in Louisiana in 2015 and beyond. Take my word on that. He has kept up closely with the recruits and he will go after recruits that have committed elsewhere. Coach O, Frank, Kevin and the others will make a difference in 2016, but watch what happens late for LSU in this recruiting class."

Mike D said that DJ Chark would be a playmaker for us this year and that Frank Herron would be unstoppable. Mike D isn't any smarter than Mike from P.

A better thread title would be better.

Now let us not go around 'booming' just yet

Yes and Les told us Herron was a starter as well so.....

Yes and MD said the Saints were going to Super Bowl in 2015..... Coach O & Kevin will turn the recruiting wars upside down but even a Helen Keller can see this! Geaux Tigers (and Saints)

While nothing Mike said in that quote should be a surprise to anyone, I think the guy is a hack. He speaks in absolutes and is constantly factually wrong. I'm honestly very surprised people respect his opinion as much as it seems people in the media do.

It truly is baffling really. He has a ton of NFL connections so I guess that's why people value his opinion. The problem is his opinions are terrible and he's wrong way too much to be considered an "expert" in anything.

He did predict over the summer that Miss St will be a force to be reckoned with and will beat LSU.

Let's all hope that this is the moment where all those random speculative comments that flow from Mike Detillier's arse begin to be true.

Well chark does look like a good player..... And Harron got nothing but praise all off season but Chavis decided he wasn't ready for his standards. I'm telling you coach O won't sit these big time recruits..... He's gonna let em learn on the go. For some guys this is how they learn the D.

So Mike D. doesn't know what he's talking about?

Then you contradict yourself from your previous comment.

Some players play best when on the field not at practice and even if they are over matched on the field it lets them know, hey I'm "here" and need to be "here" to play with these guys. Coach O is gonna make a big diff in our Dline IMO!!

Think about how difficult it is for the D Line to generate pressure when constantly going 4 on 5 with few stunts or variations (other than going small with Chavis' Mustang package), and rarely getting more than 1 LB or DB to help apply pressure. Only a flat out stud is going to excel in this scenario.
A scheme with a few wrinkles should really help bring out the best in our current roster. Our secondary is capable of great man to man coverage, so look for more aggressiveness in the front 7 next season. Based on what I've seen from Steele and O in the past, the reps will be spread more evenly, especially at DT, and the scheme will be adapted to the strengths of the players, not vice versa like we had under Chavis.
Next year's D may get burned more often for playing aggressive, but on the other hand, the offense could reap big time rewards if they are successful. 2011 showed that a team with an average to above average offense can be transformed into a scoring machine when they are constantly getting the ball in great position thanks to sacks and turnovers. The 2014 D looks good on paper, and kept us in a lot of games, but they actually put a higher burden on an anemic offense by forcing them to constantly drive the field to get points.
Increased sacks and turnovers and an improved Brand Harris starting at QB would transform the outlook for 2015. Hopefully the energy we see in recruiting right now in the wake of the staff shakeup will transfer through the offseason to the field next year.
