The Chavis D is very predictable, and that's why these teams ran ruff shot on us. I believe these guys will actually have a scheme that confuses offenses. These guys need a lot of coaching IMO. They haven't played very smart but i believe they are and can be. I'm hoping these guys coach em how to disguise blizt and coverage and mix looks. This also helps to get to a QB and with TOs. This year showed that they can learn pretty quick though so I'm hopeful. Mix in the 3 4 with 4 3 and actually move guys around and stand guys up that normally wouldn't with Chavis. It doesn't have to be complicated either, that's where Steel comes in. Rotate Rotate Rotate..... Get the best guys in and make it fun and aggressive and you will see more big time recruits wanting to play in this Defense. We rotate that secondary so why not the rest of the D...... Recruits want to play so play em. We start doing this and our defensive recruiting will soar. GT

we were ranked top 10 in total defense.

Are you denying that teams have consistently pushed our defense around and run all over them? What people should be most excited about is the fact that O and Steele are going to be teaching the guys fundamentals and techniques, which they obviously haven't been learning.

Which is nice, but my gosh that D gave up a ton of points in games at times. I rather have a really good D, that can close out games and get us more wins.

The D was atrocious just a season ago, and this season while it was a top 10 defense, they definitely had their share of struggles giving up points or blowing leads late.

I hope we can force more sacks, tfl, and turnovers this season.. and close out games. If we can do that and still be a top 25 defense, I think I would take that.

I guess that makes up for 5 losses in the last 2 minutes over the past 3 seasons?

He did predict over the summer that Miss St will be a force to be reckoned with and will beat LSU.

He said wed lose to ole miss, state and bama, but win every other game. So he was still wrong.

I predicted losses to bama and auburn, not really hard to do and don't need to be an expert.

I also told anyone who would listen, if state was going to beat us any year, it would be this one.

Guess what, when you pair a great defense with a fricking atrocious offense that can NOT get a first down to ice the game. shite like this happens.

I don't know what you folks want, it would take a perfect defensive effort to hide the bullshite O we didn't fix at all.

Steele and O will not make it better. Run for a first down when you gotta, then we aren't talking about this shite. The D has kept our shite show O in games for forever.

Nobody said they didn't, but to act like the D was holding this team back is laughable.

Our d has been solid but stats do lie. We weren't nearly as good against SEC west opponents and we finished 13th in the league in sacks. That is why we went 8-5. Our defense was good enough to keep us in games but not good enough to win any games for us. It's been that way for at least three years now. That loss in the championship may have taken some of the energy out of Chavis and Brick. They're older guys now who don't really have a passion for recruiting.

We had what, the 116th ranked passing O in football, the 77th ranked offense.

We are coming off a legendary recruiting season.

I don't know why anyone would think that Steele is going to be even close to the caliber of Chavis, and I really don't know how people can not see that defenses do not function in a vacuum. I

Maybe if there was a pulse on offense you may have seen a blitz or two, or maybe we wouldn't have had our safeties in center field all day.

We are whistling thru the graveyard on this one.

And you don't think LSU made Chavis look even better? We won zero championships with him regardless who's fault it was, but we won one prior to him with Pelini coaching the D.

This offense is absolutely stacked and people are giving up on Cam too quickly given just a season ago you saw what he could do with veteran talent.

And aside from Fournette, he has not one piece of the puzzle in place to duplicate. No Juice, No Beckham, and for certain no Mett.

Never mind, I am glad we got rid of a top 10 DC and got a LB coach. Seems like an upgrade to me.

First, when your offense is a running one and takes time off the clock...yes, even when 3 and outs...your defense has to defend fewer possessions. Second, LSU was 13th in the SEC in sacks...only 14 teams right? Third, LSU was 11th in the SEC in INTs caused. So yeah, if you like great defense on 1st and 2nd down and 3rd and short and the first 57 minutes of a game, Chavis is your guy.

Thanks, but he earned the name 3rd and Chavis from Tennessee fans for a reason and how many times did the guy allow impossible 3rd and 4th and longs. Never forget the 4th and 18 vs Clemson in the bowl game. And of course Notre Dame just loved 3rd and longs and 4th and longs...automatic conversions.

So a run, run, pass 1:45 second possession, that hurts field position is now a good thing. Roger.

I get it, we wanted that Chavis gone, it was our call. We needed to help out our offense. We were basically in the same boat as the Ags and AU.

I see the error I my thinking.
