Twitter is the most useful of them all IMO. It's the quickest way to get news.
Last night, I was trying to figure it why fireworks in New Orleans were going off and went to Twitter. Searched " fireworks Nola" and boom found my answer
It's also great for following prep football

Kids that play football, baseball, or basketball still do so, but they also post pictures of it on Instagram.

I got a FB page about 7 years ago when I was 37. I loved being able to reconnect with people I had not seen in 15-20 years. I just finally got tired of seeing the attention seeking posts from the ones who put their whole life on FB. Also the overly fake comments from other people needing to chime in on the most insignificant BS posted. "Oh girl, that is soooooo sweet and your kids are sooooo lucky to have you for a mom! You are simply an AMAZING person!" after somebody post a picture of a tray of specially baked homemade cupcakes she made for her "little angel." Social media is great to a degree but stops being great when it pulls the narcissistic element out of emotionally needy people thirsting for validation. I stopped using FB because of thar reason.
This is the only SM type site I visit and love it for the diversity in discussion on all the different boards. But I only do it at home when I have extra time. Heck, I don't even gave a cell phone. My wife and two teenagers do but I did away with mine 2 years ago as an experiment to see if I could go without one. I found that I felt liberated in a strange way. Last Friday night, my wife and 4 children went out to eat and the tables(2 six tops pushed together) next to us had a large family. A grandma and grandpa (late 50s) and what seemed to be their children (two old enough to have spouses and babies in car carriers and 2 in their mid/late teens). I do not exaggerate when I say that for the 45 minutes we sat next to them that every person over 10 at that table had their faces buried into their phones except for the grandpa who entertained the three babies. Two were in carriers on either side of him and one in a high chair. The only time I saw anyone speak was 20 minutes after they had ordered and their food arrived. All phones went to the table beside their plates and but they still had little to no verbal communication. Gradually, after about 10-15 minutes of eating....it was cell phones up again. It was kind of sad in a way. I am far from perfect but i do have a no phone, tablet or any other kind of electronic device policy when my family and I are out together.

This. And if as a parent you can stay plugged in with technology and your teens, it becomes a fun way of sharing and starting conversations.
