So been trying to get back into the church routine as a New Years resolution. Being younger and not having much money, I'd always throw a few bucks in the collection plate.
Now that I'm older and making OT baller money, is 10% really expected? That comes to a pretty big monthly bill...
OT church goers, do you just throw a 20 or so in there or really give that much money (10%)?

Giving anything close to 10-15% of your income to a church is absolutely mind-blowing to me.
To each his own and I don't care what you do, I just can't fathom doing it.

10% here. Regardless of what my income level has been. And it's been low and it's been high.
ETA: I should say also that we give to several other things over and above the tithe, so it's not like it's a strict 10% and that's it, we're good with God kind of thing

you can tithe your time as well.

I don't tithe because I feel like I can't afford to (read not OT baller).

I'm not an OT baller. I'm a year out of college with a 3 month old. I usually drop $20-$25.

God said it was & I do it without fail.
Waiting on the obligatory flaming.

You can't buy your way into heaven.
And if your church has a pastor that drives a nice car, what are you really paying for?
I give my time not money bc I can see what it's benefiting directly, not paying off a pastors mistress (healing place, cough cough)

You reap what you sow. Sow sparingly and reap sparingly.
ETA: If I can spend $70-$80 on Saturday night for dinner with my Fiancee then certainly the good Lord deserves that much.

Yes 10% and also contribute to other charities with both time and money.

Good for you! My wife and I are not at 10%. We do however donate to some different charities and causes, that doesn't justify us not doing so, but it makes me feel better.

That's not the point of it. It's about the good causes that the church will put it towards.

Give what you feel compelled to give? Many people believe it goes to a pastor when in reality many churches take that money and send it overseas to feed the hungry or to missionaries etc.
Comes down to do what you want.

I go to church almost every Sunday and generally give $0. I can't fathom giving 10% of income.

They should pay me to go to church instead
