Help settle a debate with a friend

Also, what constitutes someone being a superstar? Winning? Popularity? Stats?

I think both are arguably superstars, but Love much moreso than Irving.

They both play solid ball when dressed as old dudes though.

To me a superstar is somebody with the athletic talent but they transcend that talent and enter the main stream media. This can be done through commercials, charity, acting, etc.

Love isn't there. Kyrie is maybe trending there.

NO

Popularity/recognition is what makes a superstar.

I'm not sure either of them are top 5 at their respective positions

So no, they're not superstars

Id say there are only 4-5 "superstars" in the league

Offensive beast early in his career, but not an all-around player and doesn't current rank among Top 50 in PER in the NBA (54th). Obviously PER is not be-all-end-all, but it's kind of revealing.

Barely cracks the Top 50 in PER.

They would be classified as the tier directly below superstars. Call it whatever you wish.

To me that have not proven their true worth. Playing with James does not help that. To be fair, most of these other big 3's have proven themselves before they got together.

Neither Love or Irving have even made it to the playoffs.

No and no.

All-star level, yes, but I don't think that makes you a superstar. I think superstars singlehandedly can make their teams playoff caliber.
