What would be wrong with using this format to determine CFB Champion?

Why not just take conference champions only? This way, the smaller schools can't fricking complain they don't get a shot, there's no human bias in a committee, and people can't bitch about computers.
It is a playoff and it keeps the regular season EXTREMELY meaningful. IT doesn't give second chances and it makes conference games INTENSE.
Teams would schedule harder OOC teams to prepare themselves for in conference play since OOC losses wouldn't hurt as much.
This year would be:
(committee can seed them)
1. Alabama- SEC Champ
2. Oregon- PAC 12 Champ
3. FSU- ACC Champ
4. OSU- B1G Champ
5. Baylor- Big XII Champ
6. Boise St- MWC Champ
7. Marshall- CUSA Champ
8. NIU- Mac Champ
The only thing the committee would decide is seeding and which 3 smaller conference champions get a chance outside of the power 5. This year, ULL and Memphis would be left out.

The big five conferences would never agree to it.

because that system would require a presumption from the outset that
1. all conferences are equal
2. all conferences have equal/similar determinations of a champ
3. no non-conference champs are superior to another conference's champ

A lot of people are in to second chances apparently. I like the regular season to be meaningful as opposed to NCAA basketball where people just watch at the end.
I mean, I'm okay with 4 teams. 8 playoff teams or 16 (which is where it's heading) is just fricking ridiciulous.

So ooc games no longer matter?
Sounds like fun

Because it's dumb. I don't want to watch some scrub MAC team that would be a middle of the road Power 5 team in the playoff. Save that slot for a more deserving team from a better conference.

Or they would schedule the weakest games possible to make them de facto bye weeks.

Because Notre Dame would have to join a conference and we know that can't happen

In NCAA BB, the smaller conference teams who get in over the larger conference teams aren't better.
I"m not saying all conferences are equal. But the BCS and "committee" we have just assumes which conference is stronger. Why not let it play out on the field? If their conference is truly weaker, then they wouldn't win the playoff. IT'll make SEC prime time games pretty intense.
Who cares how a conference determines a champ?

I'd rather see a game that doesn't really matter between Alabama and Oregon or Alabama and ohio state over a fricking game like Alabama and charleston southern that does matter.
You're just pissed because ND would finally have to join something.

and their system is an absolute abortion

assumptions...and multiple statistical models

if this is your argument, you're 100% admitting your system is illogical

So, I guess people really do love them some second chances. Must be the millennial generation I guess. A team in the power 5 that didn't win their conference had their shot at the playoff and blew it. Win.your.conference.
How can a team who didn't win their conference be national champion? It just logically is retarded.

what? could care less if ND joins the ACC, but at this point it serves zero purpose to do so.
Your idea is dumb regardless, youre turning a 12 game season into 8 regular season games and 4 preseason games (just lol)
Posted on 12/7/14 at 11:25 am to Moustache
ULL would be left out because they didn't win their conference

8 team playoff 5 conference winners, 3 at large
Since Schools cry about academics, lol. You keep it the same 5 weeks as BCS. We would have to wait 5 weeks for that shite show.
week1 Quarterfinals
week2 Bye
week3 Semis
week4 Bye
week5 Championship
We lose this 5 week layoff crap, and you still have same amount of time between title game and end of regular season.

Because college football fans are obsessed with keeping the system subjective

I agree and CFB is heading more towards that abortion. It will be 16 teams eventually. THis means a lot of 3 loss teams will be given chances at a title. A lot of rematches and a lot of people not giving a single frick about the regular season similar to NCAA BB.

Or we could actually watch the game on the field. Statistical models aren't always accurate and without bias.

Oh well. Tough shite for them.
Ultimately, I'd rather go back to BCS with plus 1 or plus 2 if absolutely necessary. But, I'd rather a conference champion playoff than an arbitrary 8 or 16 team playoff which would render the regular season meaningless.
Hell, the only reason people even pay attention to NFL regular season is gambling and fantasy. CFB doesn't have those things at the level of NFL.
16 team playoff combined with the concussion shite will be the end of the interest in the sport IMO.
