We got a new neighbor, and he was tellin me he loves some coon, and had a few in the freezer. Never met anyone before that ate coon. Any good?

if it's cleaned right, yes. If not, taste like dirty socks.

They'll take over a neighborhood.

Not a fan of them, but yes, I ate them. I find the meat gets stringy.

Yes. I killed a coon and brought it home to my mom when I was younger. She cooked it.
Not sure if it was just how she cooked it or if it is just how they are, but I remember it being very greasy and not that great.

Yep, its a cross between rabbit and tree rat. Cooked down in a gravy my experience was good.

A few years ago, my grandpa pressure cooked a coon then threw some BBQ sauce on it.
House smelled horrible, it was extremely greasy.

The black fella at my office is a big fan of coon. He was changing a light in my office last week and told me 12 different ways of cooking it.

I've had it, but it had had the lymph nodes pulled on cleaning, fat trimmed, then par boiled and water changed. Was OK. Not something I'd really get a craving for.
Was probably 30 years ago if that tells you anything.

Back in the day when I used to hunt them sucks for the pelts, I was one coon killing SOB. Easy money back in the 1980's. All the brothers would chase me down just knowing I had some coons forsale.

I've had it a couple of times. Not once was it something I really liked. I agree with the poster who said the meat gets stringy.

Unfortunately, yes.
Smoked coon comes out super gamey.

Got a black dude named Duck that works for us that loves a coon. I whack one or two a year for old Duck. He called the other day wanting him a coon for Crimus, so if I see one this weekend he will die.

apparently that is a big thing for new years, in certain communities. Always see coon for sale when hunting BCNWR near Ferriday.

Back in the day in Morgan City there was a sign out front of a small grocery/corner store that said "coons are in" they were selling coons to eat - so somebody does, I never did. Ive eaten fried muskrat and its tasty but you have to clean it right, get all the glands etc out and keep overnight in cold salty water

I was in Batesville Arkansas and some black guys were selling them on the side the road.
