Those of you who have quit drinking, how quickly do you lose the "beer belly"?

I usually have 1-2 beers/ drinks a night, but I cut it out recently to try and get in better shape for the holidays after seeing exercise and healthier eating not helping as much as I would like
Obviously the answer is exercise, especially core strength. I get above average exercise (walk about 5 miles a day, hockey, basketball, and running my dog).
So how long am I looking at for start seeing benefits?

When I was drinking a lot more than I am now, and cut back, I gained weight

how big are you big moe?
and define "healthier eating"
if you only had two drinks a night, there may be some other reasons you are overweight.

I'll join in the question.
I too regularly had a couple of beers s night but lately drinking just doesn't appeal me. I haven't had any lately but not because wanted to quit.
I've just sort of lost the desire for no apparent reason. Very strange.

That's a 150 calories a beer, 300 calories a night. 2,100 a week, 8,300 a month. That's 2 plus pounds a month--25 + pounds a year.
50 + pounds in two years.
Adds up quick.
Not to mention if he tends to over eat sweets and junk when's he had a couple in him like I do.

Cooking almost all my own meals, mostly chicken, fish, or shrimp w/ a vegetable on the side
And I know it's not the reason I am overweight, but I know the calories add up

I lost mine in 2 months by reducing my drinking. Gained it back when I started drinking again.

You can track calories with the MyFitnessPal app on your phone. It helps me out when I'm trying to cut back.
If you do a lot of cardio, 1 or 2 beers is actually good for you. Try a low calorie diet somewhere around 1,900 / day and add weights into your workout.
Also, training for a half marathon really helped me out.
With the calorie count, you have to include everything, including the beer intake. I usually pre-plan all my meals.
Two-a-Day workouts is also a good way to kick start your metabolism. Look into vitamins that will help give you additional nutrients you'll miss from cutting back on certain foods like red meats.
Good luck bro.

I quit drinking last new years but got more pudgy/lost what little muscle mass I possessed from sitting on my arse more. When i'm drinking, I'm out and about, nonstop, forgetting to eat, fricking like a pack of bunnies.

not a fatty by any means. you may need to target your belly if you want to lose that.
also, you may be suffering from getting older. we all do. harder to stay fit and trim. how old are you?

About to turn 24. I know I'm not a "fatty", just like to be in my best shape when I go home and see everybody. Don't want to be the "looks like you've packed on a few" guy

Thanks for the advice. I've used my fitness pal in the past and it's worked for me.
Living in Chicago, I'll to have to wait on the half-marathon for a couple months.
Will definitely look into it though

Yeah that's how it works.

I always laugh at the calories in calories out. Think of the body as an engine, no engine is 100% efficient. It is good to count and see what you are eating, but that is just one part.

Prolly the wife. She put that shite in your head subconsciously.

I have to ask...get in shape for the holidays? This makes no sense to me. You headed to the pool soon? This is the time to enjoy the extra insulation.

just exercise more and limit drinking to the weekends
no reason to quit completely

Yep. Myfitness pal helped me as well. You can fit beer in if you calculate it in your daily calories. Just have to cut back somewhere else to allow the calories for drinking.

1-2 beers a night isn't keeping your belly big.
