Does the UAB situation actually matter to you?

I keep seeing people blowing up social media about this UAB situation. I for one, do not give one red shite about the program being cut. Does it suck for the players, absolutely! Will my daily routine change because of it, absolutely not! Why is it when people see something that makes perfect business sense, it has to become something "more," such as race related or socioeconomic issues. I watched the video of the guy who could barely talk addressing the school president Watts. Why does it matter that the kids came from nothing, why does it matter that the kids came from impoverished areas. The school gave them a chance to better themselves and now the school has decided to make a conscious business decision. Most of the student Athletes will have their opportunity to leave for another school with no restrictions in terms of eligibility.
So I ask again, why in the hell does it matter to YOU?!

The only reason I give a shite is because there have been 30 threads on UAB the past two days. Other than that, I couldn't care less.

because I hate anything that makes Alabama fans happy

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but if the administration knew that the program was going to fold years ago and withheld that info to recruits, I think that's pretty shitty

they could have waited until after the last game.
other than that nobody cares. had any number of people actually cared, then they would not be getting cut.

Apparently it matters to Cajun fans, they are cheering the situation and they (some ) think theyre a shoe-in to replace them

Nope.
I think it sucks for the players and however many real fans they have, but I fall into neither of those groups.
If it really was because UAT was scared and wanted them gone, then that's some shady shite, but it's also a bad financial decision to pump public money into a losing situation.
Louisiana should do the same, not necessarily with football, but cutting back some publicly funded universities.

It matters to me. I don't want to see their program get cut.

Faux outrage man. That's all it is.

I just hate seeing programs go. I also fear that they will lose a ton of other programs due for this too. It probably won't bother me in the near future, but atm it kinda makes me sad.

UAB is the canary in the coal mine for dozens of similar programs subject to state legislature support.
This is the first of double digits that will drop football or drop down in NCAA classification in the next decade. Higher education is one of few discretionary spending items that States can cut.

Now imagine if (really more like when) football programs start paying players...they are gonna drop like flies.

How in the world does this make Bama fans happy?
I wish they could have built an on campus stadium and had better support. It would have been great not only for UAB but the city of Birmingham as well.

As a tax payer, it matters a bit to me. They should have dropped to the FCS at the very least.

To me, it is just very interesting.
It sucks for these kids, but to see one man with a famous name have this much power that he ca sabotage a football program for years to the point that he finally gets to shut it down over a grudge is just mind blowing.

As someone from Alabama it does sadden me but it also may revive Troy's program. Getting to play football for 'free' is a privilege not a right. I paid (still paying) for my education.

You've been on this thing the whole time. All over it.

A lot of fans will drop off like flies too.

No, I can't say I care, but I do find it interesting.

As a UAB alum and a Birmingham area resident, yeah it matters to me.
I hate seeing this for the players, coaches and other people associated with the program. Not to mention the implication this will have for other sports. If they don't add another men's sport, they're in jeopardy of losing their D1 status. If they do add another men's sport, they're still at risk for losing their place as a member of C-USA. President Watts claims they're going to try to work to stay within C-USA, but I don't buy that that's going to happen.
Even more than that - people are upset about the direction the university is heading, and concerned about what's going to be cut next. There's a lot that I've seen in President Watts actions and statements that seems shady as frick and I don't feel confident in him as the University President in the slightest.
