Do you consider hip-hop/rap "real" music?

I consider it real music. its just very simple music for those with poor tastes and simple minds.

It's certainly music, and the only people who don't think that are racist peckerwoods.

With that said, it is low on my list of favorite genres

I will go with no, it is more inline with "beat" poetry from the 50s/60s.

eeehhhh. I recognize that it takes a little bit of effort to compose some of those beats, although it's not as difficult as actually playing an instrument. I also realize that SOME rappers have a true gift with words and how the way they string them together.

So yeah I suppose it's music, but I think they are by far the least talented, overall, out of all the genres. Most (probably upwards of 95%) don't play any sort of instrument, nor do any type of "singing", basically just talk in rhythm over a computer generated beat. Big deal.

Most of it, not.

Some of it is good, though.

anything that can be done, can be done well. Rakim, Nas, etc are as good or better than any musicians that have ever lived.

The perfect genre for thugs

during the 1977 New York blackout, a number of looters stole DJ equipment from electronics stores and as a result, the hip hop genre, barely known outside of the Bronx at the time, grew at an astounding rate from 1977 onward

It's one of my favorites and I'm not ashamed. But im very picky. I don't like 99% of radio rap.

Yes. Those who say 'no', I question your understanding of music.

Yes. I don't care for it but art is subjective and some people really dig it.
