Never worked out? This place has made a KILLING over the years and is still packed every weekend. Ninfas is doing fine for most.

The simple answer is that Coyote Blues opened and showed them what incredible Mexican food truly was.

last time i went they made new beans for me and they were excellent. But i do see they have gone down the past few years. But if you know someone there they can usually make sure what you get is fresh.

I was once at the original one in Dallas , early 80s the chef was on the old show Master chefs doing chilli rellenos ,,soon after she left and it went down from there.
Someone said Houston was original not sure about that, but the show was done in Dallas. On Mockingbird lane. Just a name, now.

I've always liked Superior better. I've only gone to Ninfa's twice.

So both Ninfa's and Superior make sub par margaritas in your opinion? Who makes a good one?

Superior

Fun atmosphere, decent margs, sub-par food. Only go there if I want the atmosphere on a Friday night--never just for dinner.

Superior is the only Mexican restaurant that consistently has good service, food and entertainment.

Wife and I went a month or so ago and had the same (bad) experience. Shitty food, sub par service. Agree the place is a shell of what it was in the 90s, early 00s.

Two questions:
Has La Carreta suffered the same fate? Last visit there, place was not crowded at all, food wasn't spectacular?

Where does one find the "better" mexican food in BR?

Take out food and you might be right. Once I've been exposed to more authentic Messican, I find it hard to pay the prices Superior and Ninfa's demand for crappy tex-mex.
