In 2010 I did the Miss Blues Marathon and it snowed almost the entire time with temps never getting out of the teens, but this weekend I am supposed to do a half Ironman with temps at race start forecasted to be 28 with a wind chill of 19. Hopping on the bike about 8 am and it should warm up to a balmy 31 with a wind chill of 25. By the time I would end the bike it shouldn't be so bad in the mid 40's, but I'm really starting to think about sitting this one out.

Had a swim meet at the S. Foster YMCA and it had to be in the mid 40s. The indoor pool had too much chlorine in it so we swam in the outdoor pool. Not sure if it was heated (must have been) but it was cold as hell on the starting blocks.

I played football my senior year and it was probably like 35. The worst part was the rain and the wind though. Having to be on the sideline when the defense was on the field was miserable.

2004 MPSA playoffs. It was in the mid 30's at kickoff and close to freezing by the end of the game. I was a freshman and played just enough to get sweaty which made it worse.

Swim meet at Francos. It was maybe in the 30s and drizzling. The pool was heated but it was freezing otherwise. We all got in the showers in between our heats.

Which race are you doing?

My wife did the NOLA Half IM (held in April) a couple of years ago, and the morning temps were in the 50's. The water was around 60 degrees. She said it was the coldest she's ever been...even with the wetsuit. I cannot imagine what the water temp will be for you...but good luck with the race itself.

Circa 1994. Played Men's Open Triples Grass in the Louisville Classic Volleyball Tourney. At the time it was the largest outdoor volleyball tournament in the world. It always takes place the two weekends before the Kentucky Derby.

It was wet and cold. And the grass was mostly mud. They had to keep moving the courts after the games to try and find some grass.

I remember the concessions sold out of hot cocoa and coffee by 10 am. Such a shitty experience.

I've run a few half marathons in very cold weather. Ran the Seaside half marathon in 2009. The day before the race, wore shorts and a t-shirt. A front blew through the night before the race. During the race, the wind chill was mid 20's gust to 30 mph winds. Didn't expect that the first week of March in Florida.

December 28th, 2007... Buffalo Bills game... It was nearly -20 degrees. We tailgated in the car and then went in for maybe 30 minutes.
