I'm absolutely positive this has been discussed but why not do it again. Is one better than the other? Mostly deer hunting and probably not gonna do much else with this gun. What do you guys think?

zero difference whatsoever, you nor the game will know the difference. Both have ammo available everywhere. 30-06 may have some higher grain ammo, im not sure though. But either will be fine

As has already been said, this might be the most pointless argument on this entire site. Other than LSU quarterback discussions anyway.

If its only for deer, i'd go with the .270. If you might want to hunter larger game with it in the future, then .30-06. Otherwise, there isn't much difference between them.

.270 does everything slightly better except recoil, which will not make a bit of difference to a grown man.

Not sure if serious...

220 grain bullets: line up the hogs and see how many you can take out with one shot! my personal best is 3 at 100#+ each

For deer, no difference.
.30-06 is a better choice if you think you might go hunting for elk or something in the future.

thanks for the info! sounds like .270 is just fine which is kinda what I was leaning towards, but a 30-06 may be a little more versatile. So this could have changed my mind.

.243 is the real answer here

the .30-06 has been killing shite for 108 years. It's not stopping anytime soon.

I shoot a 30-06 and can say that I've never lost a deer that I hit. my dad shoots a .270. Lost 2 since he's had it (about 12 years).
Last night I got a call from a co-worker that shot a good buck at 150 yds with a 270. had some blood and wanted me to bring my dog. Well several hours later we've gone 500 yds on blood and never found the deer. Lost blood and were in a MAJOR sawbriar thicket. The dog acted like the deer was in there but it was so thick we couldn't see but about 5 feet in front of us in the dark... even with big flashlights. He's going back to look today but I don't know if the deer is dead.
Since I've had my blood dog he's been on a .243 and .270 trail 3 times.... never with good results. guy said he was shooting a 140 grain bullet. maybe it was a bad shot or maybe the setup just doesn't have much knockdown...... I'm not sure but I do know I will not be trading in my 06 for a 270 EVER.....
