Without a QB and a bunch of young players LSU outplayed Alabama for 59 minutes

You do realize that Alabama just lost their 2 time winning national championship qb also don't you? They are playing a first year starter. He was 2nd in the nation in passer rating going into this weekend. If you are making an excuse for having a sophomore qb for LSU, why don't we have a capable qb ready to lead the team? Either we A) suck at recruiting, or B) suck at preparing the qb's to succeed. Either way, coaching factors into it.

this year was not due to CLM coaching (and i'm not a big supporter of his).

he had the right game plan. only knock would be the fact that he has a shitty QB. and yes, that is his fault (no two ways around it).

but you guys need to put to rest this shite about nick saban. he out recruits everyone. that's his genious. look when he has equal talent (NFL). he gets arse reamed.

I will say that I've come to believe two things about the current Bama regime:
1. They get more of the nation's top players than any other team in the SEC.
2. They do A BETTER JOB OF COACHING UP their players than any other team in the SEC.

It's point #2 that especially impresses me. Their players seem prepared (coached) from day one to be able to play the game at the SEC level--more so than just about any other SEC team.

I was in the stadium. LSU played a hell of a game, went punch for punch, but when crunch time came what happened? F***ed up the kick, then with 20 yds open to get a 1st down, Jennings tosses it up for grabs. It's terrible man, plain and simple. If we are using their current QB as an example, he just beat a true QB at LSU. With a moderate level of competent QB play, LSU wins that game easily. That is a testament to Les that the QB's continue to struggle, at least the "dual threat ones". I am not a Bama fan in an any way, but you if you can sit here and say that Miles is on the same level as Saban you're insane. Bama has won the last 4 almost all in the 4th quarter. That's luck? That's the refs? You sound like a Saints fan.

Was it a BS call, sure. Yet the action never gets called. The reaction does. Our guys have to know in that situation, no matter what they do, you shut your trap and set up to run a play. The game is in hand! Yet in the final moments of a game, LSU failed to do the right thing. They absolutely gave the game away. I thought that should have been a PI call as well, but you don't get all the breaks. That's the way it goes.

"this year was not due to CLM coaching"

I did not say that it was. The OP said that Bama is better coached than LSU. My point is that Bama is better coached than everyone. So, what? That doesn't mean they are going to win every game or that we can't compete with them. I liken it to the family that lives in a fancy neighborhood in a extremely nice house that is better than most everyone else's ... but the best house is right next door to them. It's pointless to worry about.

What I worry about are some specific things related to our team, such as the deplorable state of the passing game. Not our passing game relative to Bama's but ours compared to anyone.

I do agree that it was a non factor. THey are in FG range even if we boot that ball out of the endzone
How do you know this as fact?

Gibberish. They could've gotten tackled at the 19, and lost 6 seconds in the process, which would've completely changed the tenor of that last drive. Plus the penalty really sucked the life out of the place. There was a collective sense of "not this again."

If, If, If. Not so fast my friend. Miles needs to win more than just a close game at home to match up with that little twerp. When Miles wins a three more national championships the conversation about who's a better coach can begin.

LSU fired Charley Mac because he could not beat the Bear consistently. No one did.And LSU was lost in the desert for 40 yrs. Same with Saban, though the idea of firing CLM is beyond comprehensible. No one is beating Saban consistently, either. As for comparing a 5th yr senior QB to a 2nd yr QB, that is ridiculous. Who would you say has the best OC, LSU with Cameron or bama with Lane? Our QB has just not performed, tho his stats Sat nite would have been sufficient if not for all the drops and/or a receiver slipping down & giving bama a gift interception & 3 points. Saban himself, post game, said LSU "dominated", so...is that not great coaching on LSU's part???

You can fight it, you can argue it, say what ever you like about them, but when it comes to doing the little things, they simply do them more often than LSU does.

Watching the game Saturday I got the impression that both teams were very well coached and really on about the same level. Some mistakes were made and Bama came out on top. This isn't LSU's year. But they've improved and that's about all you can ask for. Enjoy the rest of the season. Les isn't going anywhere.

I didn't say we couldn't compete with them. We surely do. That said, it wasn't the ref's fault. No, Miles didn't kick or play coverage, but he shoulders the blame. I do not have a problem with him, or the "state of the program" but all the whining about ref's and Bama bias is dumb. That's like ACC folks whining about SEC bias. The SEC is the best, so we get the coverage. Bama is the best in the SEC so they get the most coverage, and maybe some breaks. Holds true for every top team in every sport. The passing game is terrible, absolutely terrible.

You can argue to make yourself feel better, but in the end, Bama won. They will be favorited again next year, and if the QB situation doesn't get straightened out soon, more teams will be as well.

Do you even see the irony in this statement? Especially when followed up with a line about Saban's "three national championships?"

The BS unsportsman-like conduct against us at the end cost us 7. They were not going to stop us there. Also the non-PI on the last play to tie it up.

I agree the personal foul on Vadal was a bad call, at least at that point in the game.

But Bama had a personal foul in overtime at the 2 yard line that was just as bad.

And please, you can't call interference on that last play. It's football, for goodness sake. There's going to be contact. You can't throw a flag for every little touch.

I am not saying the LSU staff is bad. No one beats us consistently except Saban. I am simply saying, if they are the standard bearer, we are going to have a hard time surpassing them when we continue to do dumb shite in crunch time. Clock management and late game issues in close games have haunted Miles for years. It has to be fixed or the result will be the same. I do think the LSU D dominated. I think the run game was effective. If we could pass oh say, 30% better we win. You can say Cam is better than Lane, but Lane is up 1-0. Lane's QB came through in the clutch. Cam's made a bone head play. As for that INT, the WR was on the ground before Jennings had his feet set. He still threw it!
