I'm a dad of three and I would never handle this situation the way you did. You need to let him know that these urges are normal and it's part of growing up. I get that you don't like porn in your house and that's fine, but be his mentor sometimes and not an authoritarian hardass.
Just know that if he wants porn he will seek it outside the house, which totally screws up the basis of your plan. If my son was going to do it, I'd rather it in his room than at the library.
