I killed a banded redhead in 1996 that was banded in 1990. Probably the oldest one I've kilt. Killed a woodie in Oak Ridge one time that was banded 2 months prior.

My son killed a woodie hen in St. Gabriel that was banded in Gardere, LA. Poor thing was killed in her own backyard.

In Arkansas I hunt with a bunch of old timers from 50-75 years old.
There is nothing better than old dudes fighting in the middle of the timber over who shot the banded duck, especially if its a money band.
I guess thats why I only have 1 band. I never try to claim them within a large group of hunters.

Been duck hunting for 20 plus years, never got a band. My son,13, killed his first limit of woodies last year and two of the had bands.

at least hes still young enough you can kind of take some credit for putting him in a position to kill the ducks with bands.

Killed a banded woodie a few years ago. Honestly can't remember the age. Really just posting this to brag about killing a banded duck, seeing that most haven't killed one.

not the oldest but here is my best band story - opening day of duck season about 10 yrs ago a flock of geese (canadas) head toward us, about 20, so we eject the 3s and load BBs. They come straight in and my uncle shoots at birds on left, me on the right. First shot I drop one, dead, move to the next bird, drop it dead - ok I move to the next bird but only one shot left and I hit it, not dead but falls in the water. My uncle dropped one and dog is off getting my 1st bird. Our birds were separated and when dog returns w 1st one I notice a band, he goes to get my next bird - yep another band. He goes to get my uncles bird no band. For the wounded bird we had to chase it in a boat and yep another band. 3 shots 3 bands but this is where it gets really strange the bands were consecutively numbered xxxxx15, 16 and 17...... Talked to some padnahs at USFWS and DU and they had never heard of 3 shots and 3 consecutively numbered bands. Birds were yearling canadas banded about 50mi away so no good migration stories. Sorry to hijack thread but I love telling this story

I've heard reports of them living 20 plus years
Killed a Snow in Jones, LA with a neck band that was 12 years old from somewhere near the North Pole, Baffin Island I think. Oldest duck was a Mallard drake killed up on D'Arbonne in the Mecca that was 8.
They band lots of Mottled Ducks down here in SE Texas. They don't really migrate a lot so first of the season before they know every blind and start landing in bar ditches, we usually kill a few (but they open them up a week later now so it has cut down on Mottled jewelry). Also, they band Woodrows pretty hard on Upper Ouachita every Summer. Got a secret hole on the DeLoutre that usually coughs up a local band there every once in a while.

I killed 1 banded duck in my whole life. The guy I was with claimed he shot it after he picked it up and saw the band. It was his club so I didnt argue. It sucked.
