Help with Chicken and Dumplings

Never made them before. I can't imagine it's terribly difficult. One of my friends wants me to make it for her daughter's birthday. Apparently it's one of her favorite things to eat that her grandmother used to make.
So since I have an ego and full confidence in the food and drink board, I'm determined to make it better than grandmother's recipe on the first try.

Whatever recipe you end up using, I suggest that you make it at least once (twice would be better) before you make it for your friend's daughter. Be sure to write down any adjustments you make to the recipe.

You may want to find out if she likes flat dumplings or thicker/round dumplings. Some recipes call for dropping tablespoons of biscuit batter into the boiling chicken broth. Both are good but distinctly different. My family recipe for chicken & dumplings is not cream based. More like smothered chicken with extra chicken stock plus dumplings.

I kick mine up quite a bit from what my grandmother made...a little cayenne in the dumpling dough, fresh minced jalapeño pepper in the broth, heavy on the garlic, and a healthy dose of minced red bell pepper, green onion and flat leave parsley before service. I go heavy on the fresh cracked black pepper, too"

Well I would click MD link above follow it and add grandmother's secret ingredient. Lots of love.
You will be a hero.

That's a great recipe MD. My great-grandmother made them the same way except she used milk in her dumplings instead of broth.

My mom used to make them by boiling flour tortillas. IMO they were as good as fresh made dumplins or boiled biscuit dough like some people used.
