Yea, what was that about racist and democrats?
Blanco and the democrats ran the most racist campaign since Jim Crow. You didn't hear Jindal sitting around bitching about it though but he was railroaded in that election.
Jindal looks like a Muslim and Mary is a woman Senator. What in gods name is she talking about? If the president had pro energy polices then his numbers wouldn't be in the tank down here. He wants to limit drilling in the gulf and it's cost our state jobs.
quote:
There’s one more thing to know about Jindal: He was the victim of a racist attack by Democrats. In the governor’s race, Jindal was leading Democrat Kathleen Blanco in polls–and the Democrats went all out. At a rally in New Orleans, the president of College Democrats of America, Ashley Bell, said Jindal “is Arab American” and “the Republican token attempt to mend bridges long burnt with the Arab-American community.” Bell also referred to “Bush’s personal ‘Do Boy’ Bobby Jindal.” Blanco was quoted as telling a Democrat eliminated in the primary that “a Hindu out-Catholic’d both of us.”
‘

But it was a TV ad in the final week of the campaign that was pivotal. The spot began with a screaming headline, “Wake Up, Louisiana,” and concluded by asserting, “They hope we won’t wake up until it’s too late.” The ad was reminiscent of efforts to rally white Southerners against supporters of racial integration and civil rights legislation. And it showed a picture of Jindal with disheveled hair, a picture that some Republicans claimed was touched up to make Jindal’s skin look darker. Jindal wound up losing to Blanco in areas where the so-called Bubba vote–white backers of Ku Klux Klansman David Duke in earlier elections–is strong. He lost statewide by 52 to 48 percent.

Jindal never complained publicly about the ad, which criticized his record as hospital chief, or other attacks. Nor did he air a rebuttal. To this day, he’s philosophical about his defeat. “I got a faith that sustains me,” he says. “I desperately wanted to be governor,” but from God’s perspective, “it doesn’t make a difference” who wins a governor’s election. “I’ve got every reason to be grateful. I didn’t feel any regrets. We tried everything we could. When God closes one door, he opens another.”‘

Her president is unpopular everywhere, not just in a "racist" Louisiana. With her reply to all the criticism, I get the feeling she was just trying to stir up the black voters who so far have been somewhat apathetic from most accounts. One of her main campaign arguments is that she is in position to do so much for the state. Yet, it is her president, with whom she's sided on 97% of his policies, who is holding back a vote on the pipeline & has been openly anti oil & gas during both his terms in office.

quote:Wow! Well, there it is.
I can't help you if you don't think white people in Louisiana having a black president is an issue for them.
Of course, Landrieu was insistent on the exact same point.
She's now repeated it.
So why all the contortions defending her statements as some sort of simple, innocent references to history?
Seems disingenuous at the least.
Landrieu obviously is stating precisely what you believe, that Louisiana is stuffed to the gills with ignorant, backwater racists and misogynists. I haven't lived in Louisiana for years. It certainly was not that way when I lived there. But admittedly situations can change.
Perhaps things have gotten much worse since I left the state?
Perhaps things have gotten much worse since the state elected, then re-elected Landrieu as one of only a modest number of females to have ever served as a US Senator?
But then I guess I'm confused, because if backwater bigot, racists make election of quality Senators so difficult in Louisiana, why with one exception, has every US Senator from Louisiana for the past 1 1/2 centuries been Democrat?
Puzzling.

Seriously all you guys on this board on both sides do is post negative things about people you dislike, how about posting some positive stuff from politicians you support for a change?
Posted on 11/2/14 at 7:22 pm to Mr. Geaux
OK. I'll agree with her and not vote for any white females running in her race!

Would having Al Gore as president be an issue for them? Yes.
Would having john Kerry as president be an issue for them? Yes.
What do all three have in common? Well obviously they're all black, right? Or, maybe if you and the cow were honest with yourselves you'd know it is because they are all Leftists.

You are silly making this stupid statement.
I oppose Obma just as I opposed lily-white Kerry, Gore, Clinton, etc etc.
It is the man's politics that earns him the antipathy of conservatives, not his skin color.
I will wager that FAR FAR more people support him solely because he is black than oppose him soley because he is black.
So which side is racist?

See...that's the problem, most white people (including myself) don't have a problem with a black President. We have a problem with his policies (which come obviously from his white half) and wish that Morgan Freeman was the President.

I'm not "insulted" but anybody that thinks it was a productive or helpful quote to her in any way obviously has poor reasoning skills and I would prefer if you not identify yourself as a liberal (you may continue to self identify as "Democrat" to your heart's content) because my work on this board is tough enough as it is without the loon faction dragging me down by association.

She explains why Louisianians are against him, for the most part, and adds that the South hasn't always been a great place for black politicians to win elections or be popular.
And yet, I'd be willing to bet that the South has FAR more black politicians than the North or anywhere else. Your ignorance is showing......
quote:
Bobby Jindal won in the same way that Hermain Cain would have won Louisiana. Parroting what Republicans say. Blanco won because she was a moderate and couldn't be used to stir up the right wing base.
Then how does a career liberal such as landrieu stay in power for 18 years?

So what's the reason I thought GW was a retard? Was that because I was white as well?
frick, and I thought things were getting better. This shite will never change.
Did black people in the south vote for Obama becuae he was black?

I'll be very very honest with you. The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Tmericans. It's been a difficult time for the president to present himself in a very positive light as a leader. It''s not always been a good place for women to present ourselves. It's more of a conservative place. So we've had to work a little bit harder on that, but you know, the people trust me, I believe. Really they do. Trust me to do the right thing for the state.
How is this quote germane to her discussion on energy production?

The woman has had 18 years to talk about the alleged mistreatment of women and minorities by the evil white people in Louisiana. She's never said anything like this before.
So, why now? Because she needs to rile up certain voting factions to turn out for her, so she is propping up a faux bogeyman in a desperate attempt to hold on to her job.
Anybody who is too dumb to see that has bigger problems than this matter.
