Switched over to the left side. . .

Had won a custom DUCE rod earlier this month which gave me a reason to splurge on a new baitcaster.
Had been looking at the new 13 Fishing Concept E reels and was also considering importing a Shimano Exsence DC from Japan, but wanted to try a left hand reel this time. Ended up going with the cheaper Curado to see if I like the left. (I already have one newer Curado in right hand retrieve to compare it to)
Anyone else fish with lefties?
Now unfortunately I have to wait until Nov. 15th to get back out on the water!

I predominately use spinning reels, reeling with my left hand and holding the rod with my right.
I wanted to see if doing the same with a baitcaster would feel more natural

I've thought about trying it out, but I'm half tarded with my left hand.

I'm left handed and always hand a left side reel back to someone that hands one to me. Guides are the worst about this. I cast with my left and feel with my right. Proof that the inventor of a reel was left handed and extremely knowledgeable.

And I am right handed, so one would think a left handed reel would work better for me... Keep the dominant hand on the rod

First thing I do is on my new spinning reels is change it to the left hand side then re-spool it with some quality fluro. I have a right handed baitcaster that I hardly fish with i'll trade ya if you dont like the lefty.

I cast right and reel right. I've tried lefty and it's just not for me.

i must be the only odd-ball that can cast either left or right handed

Yeah you right! Grew up reeling a spinning reel left handed, why the hell would I switch with a baitcaster. Not to mention I probably wouldn't be able to set a hook left handed.

I can definitely cast with both hands but it would tale me 10 minutes to reel it in left handed.

quote:Its the only way I fish. I never understood how a RIGHT HAND dominant person puts the rod in their weak hand. The stronger arm should be the one doing the hard work which is holding the rod. Also, it makes no sense to cast and then have to switch hands. People who reel with their right hand are obviously doing it backwards
Anyone else fish with lefties?
ETA:

Not to mention I probably wouldn't be able to set a hook left handed.

Yep

Because the dominant hand has more dexterity and fine motor control. That's why we write with it. It makes sense to use the hand for the more precise actions, like reeling, adjusting the drag, and line thumbing.
And while the non-dominant arm is slightly weaker, the drop off in gross strength really isn't that much.

Ding ding. We have a correct answer.

I've never understood why righties, such as myself, cast with their left hand anyways. Maybe because I taught myself how to use a baitcaster, but I always cast with the left.
