Is the paper you're looking at from 2014?

and we likely will lose. Why is that?
Everybody loves the underdog. LSU hasn't been in that position for quite a while. It brings a different kind of excitement to the game than when you're the favorite and "supposed" to win every game.

I always think LSU can and will win every game -what's the point in calling yourself a Tiger fan if you don't take that posture, anyway?
I enjoy the 'expert' analysis on the Rant and often find it very enlightening but prefer to lurk on that rather than engage - mainly because 'that's like, your opinion, man'.
All that said, yes, I think LSU will have a signature win this year and crushing the hopes of Ole Piss would be a victory as sweet as any.

Good. I'm not excited but I've been too busy to think about it. I will be shortly.
Ole Miss is my favorite opponent in Tiger Stadium. There is something old school about it that I just can't place, plus the girls are fantastic.
That said, I wanted Bama bad in 2012. This could be a historic game. The mojo has not come out yet. This is the first real feel of football season.

Good point

I'm rushing the field if we win FWIW....East Upper Deck seats be damned!

For those of us no longer in Baton Rouge, what is the feeling on town about this game? Are people pretty fired up?

That is why it will happen Saturday when everyone least expects it. The consciousness of the fanbase is trending toward LSU having an epic home environment and epic win Saturday night. This game will be looked at the rest of this season and next year as the game where LSU started making serious noise again in the SEC and national picture.

There is something emotionally liberating about a game we should lose.

They aren't awesome against any spots where we are terrible, they are average where we are average, and they are relatively weak in some places where we excel.
- They are probably the only "top" SEC team we play where our D-line is better than their O-line
- They thrive on turnovers and our offense is designed to never come close to turning the ball over
- They aren't great against the run and that's the only thing we are good at on offense
- They aren't very good at rushing, especially up the middle where we have been shown to be weak
- They aren't very good at pass blocking, so our relatively weak pass rush should have a good day
- They are bad at special teams, LSU has a huge advantage there

Hunter, Rasco, and Lacouture have a combined 5.5 sacks this season. Our d-tackles have not exactly set the world on fire stopping the run

Just b/c they have forced turnovers doesn't mean they thrive on them. They don't need to when their defense has given up 10.6 per game

They are literally ranked 8th in the country against the run allowing 97.1 yards per game

Agreed. In your first answer you said our d-line is better than their o-line but in this answer you say we are weak inside stopping the run. So which one is it?

Couldn't saying the exact opposite also be true. If both units aren't great why does our unit get the nod here. I could literally say the same thing but from the Ole miss point of view

Agreed. Finally

Anyone feel the same way?
I do. I have no idea why. I usually don't really care if we have two losses and are already bowl-eligible.

They might not be great against it when the opposition is a credible threat to throw. I have hopes, but let's not pretend we can establish the credibility of that threat easily.

I remember in 2008, Alabama came into Baton Rouge as a heavy, heavy favorite and LSU took them to overtime and really should have won that game.
I remember my feeling before that game clearly. One of the few games in the past 10 years that I certainly thought there was about 0.00% chance of us winning. I will NEVER doubt the Tigers again. They played with EXTREME effort in that game (and should have/could have won).
GEAUX TIGERS! you got this one. GEAUX TO HELL Ole Miss!!!

I know this is really digging in the history books for some of you, but I also felt that way before we beat Florida in '97.

Partly because they are taking possessions away via turnovers.

The only team they have played with any running attack was Bama - and Bama ran on them successfully. If they had stuck with the running game, Bama wins that game and runs for well over 200 yards in the process.

I'm pretty sure you're right. In 1995, we won 38-9. Everything since was either a nailbiter win or a loss.
