Is there any reason I shouldn't buy a Tundra?

Test drove a CrewMax TSS 4x4 tonight, and I really like the truck.

Currently have a 2011 Ram Sport Quad Cab and am looking to upgrade to a Crew Cab. Still planning to look at a new Ram with the 8 speed, but I really like the Tundra more than I thought I would. Only thing I didn't like was the factory audio, but that can always be upgraded.

Enough rambling. I guess my question is are those of you OBers that went with the Tundra really happy with it? Seems to be a pretty bulletproof truck.

I switched from f-150 to a tundra. Only complaint is the Tundra has a tiny fuel tank. But you can fill it up for $50.

The tundra is a nice truck. If you go drive a Chevy gmc or ford I'm confident you'll notice a difference. Keep in mind the gear ratios and how each of them feel.

My biggest problem with the tundra is they haven't changed the drive train since 2007. They had the best drive train then but imho have been caught and surpassed by nearly everybody. Ecoboost except for the first two years, 5.0 ford, both motors from gm married to the tranny in the '14s and the hemi with 8 speed. Just my two cents. Can't really mess up buying a truck these days. Except Titan.

Tundra - don't really care for the looks..they get the same gas mileage as a 3/4 ton gas truck.

I would look hard at the Ram trucks, they are making a damn nice truck right now. Not to mention the EcoDiesel they have is getting 28-30 mpg real world numnbers from the info I have been reading.

I posted this in a previous Tundra thread...

quote:

2008 Tundra SR5 TRD Double Cab 2wd - Sold
2014 Tundra Limited CrewMax 4X4 - Current

Pros:

Ride-TRD had a little bit rougher ride. New one is super smooth.

Power- 5.7 makes good power. All the other manufacturers have caught up and surpassed the Tundras power, but it's still got plenty

Interior- I really like the updated interior.

Room- Feels bigger inside than other makes. And the CrewMax is HUGE in the back seat.

Reliable- Only had 100k on my 2008, but I didn't have a single problem. Just changed the oil and that's it.

Power Rear Window- I love that thing

Cons:

Fuel Economy- It's already been said, 1000 times.

Power- It pisses me off that other people have more HP than me

Paint- frick Toyota and their single stage paint. My last truck was white, it scratched if you looked at it wrong. New truck is black, It has a clearcoat. hopefully it's better.

Stereo- Factory stereo (non-JBL) is pathetic.

Features- It would be nice to have remote start, keyless start and mirrors that tilt down when you shift into R.

All in all, I love the Tundras. Current model has been out for a while with only minor changes, but I still like them. Looked at all makes and I bought another one. That is the best thing I can say.

I have an 09 with 75k. Had to change the water pump. But, I really enjoy the truck. Pulls a boat as well as any other truck I've been in.
Only thing I don't understand is why they refused to improve on the drive train like another poster said. The engines themselves are bullet proof, but a little something would be nice. Would feel as though I was buying an outdated product if I had to buy new right now.
That being said I love my truck. I have a limited so I have the jBL system and navigation so I can't comment on the factory stuff.

2015 Rams are available to order and you may find some on the lots already - personal preference, I wouldn't own a Toyota, they are a car company...

I have a 2012 CrewMax and LOVE it. My only complaint is the MPG. But I have stated in previous threads that I like to drive fast! I will only own Toyota trucks from now on.

Price.

They're ridiculously expensive compared to Ford and GM. Went to a Toyota dealership the other day before I bought my F150, they can only come off sticker a couple thousand. Very nice trucks but not worth the price difference to me.

Love my Tundra--do not trust my dealer Supreme in Hammond. I will not buy another if I have drive to Covington or Baton Rouge for service and recalls. I actually took my truck 30 miles to another dealer for the minor recall repairs because I was afraid to let the truck into Supreme's service shop.

Tundra is darn near a 3/4 ton as far as brakes and towing goes. Very good ride---better ride than the fords we own.(I love fords too--would not own a chevy).

I have about 150,000 miles on my 08 and have never spent a dime on repairs. I did the maintenance as scheduled. I didn't even have to buy a battery till this year--6 year battery.

No reason not to buy. Toyota makes some of the best vehicles on the market, it will be damn near worry free. I've owned a couple of Toyotas including a 4 runner and love the brand. I like the tundra and think it looks better than comparable ford or chevy trucks. Some people are brand loyal, it just limits what you can buy.

Test drove a GMC Z71 today, and I definitely liked it less than the Toyota. Still need to go look at the new Rams.

Here is the Toyota I looked at.

Not if you want a quality vehicle with reliability.

Well, after much negotiation with 3 different dealers, there is a new Tundra TSS CrewMax in my driveway. Such a pain, but I was able to get the truck and price I wanted. Bought it in BR, and driving back to Lafayette, onboard mileage said 18.8. That's good enough.

Thanks to the OB for all the advice! The OB is good people.
