I am here to confess.
I love country music but hate it's current state. I have been known to grow tired of the people here who always pump up Sturgill.
Well, over the last few months, I've really given this guy a shot and wow. He's fricking amazing. His voice alone is enough to want to brun down every current country radio station. You mix that in with his melodies, lyrics and the sweet sounds of telecasters and pedal steel. I'm hooked.
I apologize if I ever sparred with anyone pumping him up. I'm a fan.

Sturgill is country. Close thread.

His new album is great. Evidently he spends a lot of his spare time reading about sprituality, astrology, the cosmos and the like, so he tries to incorporate that into his music, i.e. singing about space and time.
I like him a lot. His new album was made for only $4,000, and you can tell when listening to it that it is simply made but comes with a great sound and he has good lyrics.
quote:
So don't waste your mind on nursery rhymes
Or fairy tales of blood and wine
It's turtles all the way down the line
So to each their own til' we go home
To other realms our souls must roam
To and through the myth that we all call space and time

It Aint All Flowers
I don't know why but I love this line
quote:
So I pray when I lay me down to die
Grab a glass of wine and a seat to dine
And go ahead and eat the whole damn pie
I don't know why but I love this line

Sturgill is a badass. That's about all I've got to say about him.

Has there been discussion of him channeling Waylon? I like Sturgill but he makes me want to listen to The Rambin' Man.

Pretty sure this has already been covered previously in Sturgill threads, but might as well toss it in here as well.
Sturgill caught some flack for singing "god damn" on Conan while singing "Living the Dream." His response just cements his place in badassdom.:

Been some folks coming to my page to chastise (judge) me for taking the Lord’s name in vain on Conan so figured I should address it.
Ironically, the song is actually a metaphor comparing the soothing yet completely addictive and damaging effects of hard narcotic opiates to the negative sociological impact of organized religion and blind faith when forced upon society and used as a political tool by self-righteous, thinly-veiled bigots to control and manipulate the masses and enhance the suffering of impoverished, lower class citizens. Also, since I’m self-funding/self-releasing my art instead of shooting for ACM awards and taking it up the arse from the music row man, I have the right to write and sing and say whatever I choose just as you have the right to not buy or listen to my music and stay away from my page if you don’t like it.
So with that said…
1. I sang it like I wrote it
2. Censorship is bullshite
3. This is America and people can say anything they want including “Goddamn” at the top of their lungs on national TV

I may go see him in Mobile on the 1st(?)...

Lol. No. That was some middle school philosophy BS. Lost a lot of respect for him and not because of the lyrics he sang

Middle school philosophy?
Someone got onto him for saying a "curse word" and that was his response. You don't see all of the bullshite posted on his fb daily from stupid people.

I don't think he likes the leftist tenor of Mr. Simpson's diatribe.

Ah, yeah. I get it now. Really stupid.

I agree, I like him, but he sounds like a petulant idiot.
It's not uncommon, both good and bad artists become narcissistic and think people give a shite about their views on censorship or organized religion after years of hearing praise for something they actually are competent in (music).

True... but he's responding directly to people, on his own Facebook page, that are questioning him on his actions.
He's not looking for the media to spread some anti-something propaganda.. Or grandstanding between songs during a show..

And yet still more intellectually advanced than Christianity.

It's not like he's preaching his beliefs from the stage. He was directly answering someone on his fb page. Some of the people that post on there make the sec rant look thoughtful and intelligent.
