It's pretty hard to make a kids movie that is just as appealing to adults. I find most kids movies irritatingly stupid now that I'm an adult.

I hyped up the Never Ending Story to my kids, only to feel embarrassed after re-watching it with them.

A while back I bought the complete DVD collection of the old Land of the Lost Saturday morning kids show. I LOVED that show as a kid.
It was...... well it kinda sucked.
I still enjoyed watching it because of the fond memories, but my wife, who is younger than me and had never heard of it looked at me like I had two heads. She couldn't see how in the hell I liked it.

Just remember that they're watching it through children's eyes.
For me, it was Space Jam. I hyped it up to my wife who had never seen it. How she never saw it, I don't know. But she hadn't.
So I told her it was awesome and that it was a kid's movie that everyone would love.
Then we watched it. Jesus it was bad.

I tried to make my wife watch Congo because I loved Amy. She ruined the movie for me 2 minutes in when she told me she didn't want to watch a movie with a fake gorilla in it. I always thought Amy was a real gorilla

If Monster Squad, Goonies, or Little Giants is mentioned in this thread, you can all go to hell.

Coming here to post Monster Squad. It was awful. Showed it to my kids after hyping it up. It was so bad.
Frankenstein literally says "bogus". I hid my face.

Goonies,
Still as good today as the day it hit theaters.

Goonies certainly doesn't suck, but I was watching it the other night and way too much of the movie consists of the kids screaming incoherently over each other. It's more of an annoyance.

blasphemy
I asked my wife to watch it with me everyday for a month before she agreed. It was just as glorious as I remembered.

Kids films wouldn't bother me much because I know I won't like them as much as I did as a kid.
Movies like In Search of the Castaways or Island at the Top of the World.
I have been too scared to revisit It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World because I don't want the memory of laughing til I cried ruined.

Big Green.
Absolutely no character development. It makes zero sense that the sheriff and coach get together. There is no advancement in that relationship.

I've seen episodes here and there as an adult, and I still loved them. Maybe less than I did as a kid, but still...they hold up pretty well as long as you remember what the show is actually about.

I got blasted in a Saving Mr Banks thread that this summer I watched Marry Poppins for the first time since my childhood and got really bored with it.

I literally will not watch this movie as an adult in order to preserve my childhood memories.
Fraggle Rock (and all other Muppet properties) hold up. Don't worry.
Thundercats is f'n terrible. I must have been dropped as a kid. I'm also usually struck by how much I hate the protagonist in old kids' movies I once liked. Little Big League for example (still decent, but the main character sucks).
