I spent more than I should've on my Dad's. I didn't know any better.
("You should rent a casket, even though your Dad was cremated. Some people like to see a casket." $500))
I was smarter with my Mom's and I'll be really smart with mine.

I spent 11K on my Dad a couple of weeks ago. That was for everything but the plot. You can spend whatever you want but it will cost at a min 7K.

This amount will be over $1,000,000 - just so you know. It's likely it will be much more than that. 95% of Americans do not have as much life insurance as they truly need in order to allow their family to continue living the standard of living they currently are.
Let that sink in --- the resulting amount is not to make them "rich". It's simply to allow them to continue living the same way they are.
You're welcome.
can I get a quote from you too?
If you have kids, you definitely need life insurance but you probably don't need 1 mil plus of life insurane. most people would better off investing the premiums, so their money can grow as opposed to go to the insurance shareholders.

The way you figure life insurance is simple:
Your annual salary - taxes - expenses / 2 is what it costs.
What it pays is irrelevant because you will be dead anyway.

Dad passed earlier this year and we had him cremated. No burial afterwards. It was between 3 and 4k. That sounds pretty close.

Paid $12,000 last year at Green Oaks in Baton Rouge. That includes burial plot.

It cost $12k to bury my mom in 2010. Cost about $11k to bury my aunt a few weeks ago.
Life insurance... get it, everyone.

go with cremation. cardboard box. waaaaay cheaper than the funeral home/casket/burial route.

$10-15k/person is average.

Just know that they chop you up first. That is fine with me, but some people don't like the idea of their mom getting hacked up before going into the oven.

TBH, my head is a little foggy about the details. It sounds a little high thinking about it now, but I do know that it wasn't a few hundred. He had a small life insurance policy that his mother took out when he was small that covered all of the costs.

We did a recent one for under $2K. It was only a graveside service and we own the cemetery. So, the bottom line casket plus the embalming cost around $2K. We got a friend to do a basic white marble tombstone for another $500 later on. Turnkey (not including the plot) was under $2500.00.

Also get it for your children. You can get children's life insurance pretty cheaply. I know it sounds horribly morbid to get it...but you just never know.
My coworker lost her 3 oldest children in a car accident last March. On top of the horror of losing 3 children imagine having to worry about the costs of now having to pay for funeral/burial of 3 children. She had life insurance on them through work and I know the funeral home actually donated a good bit to her.

When I lived in Chicago, I heard of a thing called the Cal-Sag Funeral Plan:
• Whack the dude
• Dump body into cement-filled drum
• Dump drum into the Cal-Sag Channel
Cost: 1 container drum, a couple bags of cement

I certainly understand that there are more points of interest than just a funeral. I have a family and I want all debts (house), college tuition saved, and some safety net included. Don't forget the kids under 18 will get SS money each month, as well.
The topic just got me thinking of funeral costs specifically.

bullshite. they do as little work as possible, stuffing your carcass in the oven. Chopping up would entail too much effort.
Besides, have you read what disgusting things embalmers do to the corpse to make it presentable for a viewing. Absolutely horrific. I'd rather get burned up and scattered.
