I would tell people and they would think i was nuts.... its crazy. We tried the swaddleing bs... basically EVERYTHING that is written about on the net, we tried. Was a HORRIBLE 3 months, but after she gets 3-4 months old, its like a different baby. This was our first kid as well so i def understand!
I remember the micro hood fan was helping and it was 3am and I was up with him standing next to it seriously thinking about ripping it out of the cabinetry and putting next to my bed cause I was so tired. Then the vacuum inspiration hit. Worked pretty well for a while and thankfully it was a new vacuum so it didn't get all dusty. Eventually I downloaded some white noise loops and cranked those. There are CD's available which are basically recordings of all major appliances. I kid you not, washers, dryers, vacuums, hairdryers. Pretty funny actually.

We have that swing. I think the old fashioned ones are better for the most part.

From what I've read, here are my recs for you:
Proper swaddling, white noise, vibration, and motion can have an effect. Don't feel bad about allowing her to cry. That is alright.
Also, try switching formulas. It is worth a shot.
If your wife is breastfeeding, there are some diets which have resulted in decreased colic.
DO NOT GIVE ANY MEDICATION WITHOUT SEEING YOUR PEDIATRICIAN FIRST.
I'm sorry to say, it usually resolves between 3-4 mos of age. Don't overwork yourself. Your health is important to the infant.

That's so funny. I've never heard that before. Makes sense though, I could always vacuum my house while the kids slept and it never bothered them, even when I was right next to their swing.

We put the vacuum next to the rocking chair in his room... that one spot it was at is still probably the cleanest spot in the house

Do not accept "colic" as a diagnosis that cannot be cured. There is a reason baby is crying.
Prob gas pains or reflux. Put him on an incline?

They like that white noise. They have been tossing around for 9 months in a noisy belly, the loud white noise is natural.

Supposedly the womb is very noisy so when they come out the silence is deafening to them.

feel your pain. We probably had the worst Colic baby in the history of the world, but it did get better eventually. I don't know where you live, but there is an all a pharmacy in St. Martinville called DUPOIS, they make a colic formula, that helped us A LOT. I am not saying its a cure, but dammit it helped. Good luck brother, I really really really feel your pain.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm not looking for a cure because that's just not realistic.
If we could lessen the crying time or simply adjust it even. Most colic babies are crying from 5 pm to midnight or so. Ours gets a late start and goes till around 2 am. Which sucks because I get up at 6 already.
Going to try the things listed in this thread and see if anything will help. Also, going to try to put her to bed super early to adjust the colic crying time.

Put her in the car and drive her around the block a few times. Seriously.
My brother was like that and this really did work for him..
Or try setting them on top of the dryer and turning on low... that worked as well

Yes, this is what we used, and it helps a lot.

We went through the same thing 2 years ago.
Sleep at an incline.
Swing worked pretty good fore us. Not perfect, but better than without.
Try switching to a completely different type of formula I.e. soy based.
Nothing will completely solve it. Best just to help each other out and get asleep when you can...housework be damned for a couple months.
In the end we found out after a trip to the ER with a severe reaction that ours was allergic to dairy. My breast feeding wife couldn't even ingest it, because it would pass to the baby.

Had some friends do this all the time until they got a $750 power bill!

<5 I can see. I just think it's colic is overdiagnosed and written off. "Oh wells my baby cries all night must be colic"
For us it was a milk allergy from the milk I was drinking. Doctor keep telling me just to deal with it. Isolated the problem, fixed it, no more "colic"
