Piyush: Ban travel from Ebola nations

quote:
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Friday called on the Obama administration to impose a travel ban on flights coming to the U.S. from countries with Ebola outbreaks.
“We should stop accepting flights from countries that are Ebola stricken,” the Republican governor said in a statement.
“President Obama said it was ‘unlikely’ that Ebola would reach the U.S. Well, it has, and we need to protect our people,” he added. “But the Obama administration keeps saying they won’t shut down flights. They instead say we should listen to ‘the experts.’ In fact, they said it would be counterproductive to stop these flights. That statement defies logic. How exactly would stopping the entry of people potentially carrying the Ebola virus be counterproductive? This seems to be an obvious step to protect public health in the United States.”

But,but the CDC guy said that's not fair and that would actually make it more likely that we will all catch Ebola and die!
We can't turn our backs on the sick!

So you don't see any logic at all in his statement? I do. I want to take as many steps as possible to nip this in the bud. If there are so many unknowns about how it's spread then how can "experts" expect to be trusted.
Bottom line - when this is over somebody is going to be able to say "I told you so". I hope to God that it's you telling me that and not vice versa. I'll gladly admit ignorance on my part of my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with the statement.
I was commenting upon him trying to interject himself on the national stage. He WAS one of the perspective rising stars.....that is gone and it isn't coming back.

I'll agree with you there. He's ridden his horse and put him up wet a few too many times.

And I can be in Oklahoma in less than a hour to LA's 3 to 4.
I'm eagerly awaiting that governor's press conference directly calling out Obama to change national policy.

The guy in Dallas with Ebola didn't fly-in directly from Liberia. His last stop before flying in to DC was Brussels. In fact I think there are very few direct flights (if any) from the Ebola stricken countries. So what is Jindal's point? Does he mean stop every flight coming in to USA?

That's the other part, and why I assumed it to be political grandstanding.
He asks for something that really isn't the problem. The real thing would be banning everyone with a passport stamp from those countries.

This was stated on CNN and proven to be false. A simple google search can clarify that.

Oh, I see you are not too bright. My apologies for replying.

I have yet to hear anyone (politician, doctor) say we ought to quit accepting passengers originating from infected areas of Africa, no matter what route they take to get here.
That makes more sense to me.

Any time someone uses "Piyush", I know they can't be taken seriously.
