re: What is your price point on a dream job?

Currently, I wouldn't take less than what I currently make, because I have to pay for my wife's professional school. Once she gets out of school I could probably take 50-70k (depending on my wife's salary) if it was a real dream job (working in an entirely different field). If I were to take a "dream job" working in the same field that I'm in, I wouldn't take a pay cut, though.

My dream job was 33k at the starting point for a salary. It had a lot of potential to move up the ladder though. It would have been a pay cut for me but I would have accepted it because I knew I would have been a lot happier and truly loved my job. I was very close to getting it but wasn't offered the position. I still won't give up on it though and will keep applying until I find a way in.
I work in non-profit though so it's not about the money for me. I love my field.

I've made 30k a year, and I've made a lot more. I'll take "a lot more" every day of the week. You're right that your lifestyle changes as you make more money, but I enjoy eating at restaurants over eating Ramen and Totino's pizzas
Louisiana is one of the happiest states because "ignorance is bliss" and we drink a lot here.

Tell me how my wife would handle it first. No sense in jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
This was huge in my decision. My SO was very supportive, she's actually the one who talked me into making the jump into what will make me truly happy, I was set on sticking with something I don't enjoy because it pays better.
It helps that I have career goals in teaching/coaching that extend beyond high school

Hard to say. Does this support both me and the woman? If not then I could go as low as $40k since she does alright. Anything less than that though and I'd be feeling selfish for basically bringing in nothing.
But it's also hard because I love doing things with my fiancée. Coffee shops, wine bars, the occasional patio dinner, a vacation once a year. Nothing extravagant, but those are what I really enjoy and would hate to cut back on them just so I'm happier at work.
I'm always going to hate my job. If you told me my job was to get tag teamed by Sasha grey and asa Akira then I'd still probably find something to bitch about. I'd do that for $40k though

What is your job?
Unfortunately for me, my "dream job" doesn't exist. I want a job that is constantly changing. Some days I love my desk job (when it's cold or really hot outside) while other days, I would rather be outside cutting grass or working in the service industry or maybe even announcing "Welcome to the stage...".
I can't think of anything that I want to do all the time.

More money gets me to retirement faster. I'll take the $$$$

Never ending postdoc sounded worse to me

My dream job would be one that pays me a consulting salary to never show up or do anything at all. I'd be willing to do this for as little as $100 a week, and in all my spare time I'd go get a job.

If it was something I absolutely loved doing to where it didn't even feel like work (can't even think of what that would be), then maybe 150k. Frankly, I'd rather just find something I can tolerate and make as much as possible. I need a lot of money to do stuff I want to do and give my family what I want them to have. Work is work - I look at it purely as a means to do other stuff I really want to do.
