Why does the Offensive Line seem to be underperforming?

I know I'll have several smart replies to this, but I thought our line was hyped to supposedly be one of the best in the nation. That is not the case so far. No large holes develop until later in the game when the other team is worn down. With the running backs LSU has, if the line is doing its job, they should be breaking off occasional long runs from the start of the game, especially considering who we've played thus far. If this improves (and it probably will) LSU will be unstoppable. TIA for your opinions.

Happens every year. I think more of it is predictive play calling. It's tough for six to block nine.

I think there's been a lack of urgency. When they turned up in the second half vs. Wisconsin, I thought they were really good.

Play calling and frankly they are just not as good as we believe our thought they would be. We anticipated improvement with a new OL coach but its not there. How one of them still starts is beyond me.

I know Wisconsin did a lot of run blitzes as well as stunts that the O-line had a hard time picking up. I think I read that NLU did a lot of stunting as well.

The O-line was supposed to be the strength of our offense this year BUT, it is much easier to block with a balanced offense. Teams will continue to stack the box until we can back them out with the pass.

Probably because every team we've played thus far has stacked 8-10 guys in the box on every play. The Greenbay Packers would have trouble with that.

Meh, I think run blocking will be ok. The play calling was terribly predictable. We lined up in tight formations and ran up the middle almost every play.

Pass protection is a much, much bigger concern. Jennings didn't have much time to throw, you bet teams will be watching what ULM did on defense.

Maybe its the inexperience of the Quarterback. If the defense is set to stop the play called, it looks like the OL is the probalem. If he doesn't recognize the defense, he can't change the offensive formation nor the play.

I don't understand it. I know Texas Tech is no SEC team, but I would guess they are better than ULM. Arkansas consistently gashed right up the middle or the defense. I mean all game long it was right up the middle. 8, 8, 12, 4, 7, 6, 4, 8, 20, 6, 4, 8, 10, 11, 11, 5, etc. it was glorious to watch. They passed the ball like 2-3 times in each quarter. They had like 4-5, 11 play drives that chewed up 6-8 minutes at a time, and still score 49 points on the road.

I also liked their use of only two RB, with the third coming in as a change of pace. The way we have used our RBs is silly in comparison. Every game, Fournette and Hilliard should be the main guys with 15-16, and 13-14,l carries respectively. Magee with 8-10, and Williams should come in when the game is out of hand, or late in the fourth. Rotating four backs the way we do it is nonsense. We have never done it like this before.

Even when four guys had over 330 yards and 7 TDs in 2011, That's not how it started out. Ware was averaging 18 carries with Ford behind at 9 carries. When Ware got suspended, Hilliard took over his spot, and Ford kept his backup role. Blue was used to run on worn down defenses in the second half of games.

Because nobody will respect our passing game until we can competently throw the mid range pass.

UL Monroe was known to be a good defensive team and played like it. Had we not dropped some of the early passes the first half would have been better for us offensively. However, we were predicted to win by 31 points and won by 31 points. The coaches chose to wear down Monroe, and did. It was a grind out game. As the two QBs get better they will be used more. I don't see a problem at this point--only good.

All of the above replies, plus, the backs sometimes tend to run with head up OL's arse and miss the hole, as I witnessed on more than one occasion against ULM...

Sitting in the EZ at wisky game, holes would open and backs would not hit them fast enough or run up the OL's arse...KH hit some in 2nd half, I could have ran thru...SO, it's not all on the OL everytime a run fails...

Because the opponents have been putting 8-9 guys in the box and we run it up the middle.

We can execute others plays if we want to, but they don't feel the need. Frankly, neither do I. Yet.

It seems as though we always telegraph our run plays as well. Either the fullback or quarterback almost always use a hand signal behind their back to indicate the direction
