Watching the Frontline episode from January. Someone help me understand why we aren't trying to liberate those people?

They're the most militarized country in the world, they have nukes, and they haven't attacked us. Good enough?

It's simple: whoever breaks NK owns NK and we seriously don't want to own that place. Hell, China is next door and doesn't want it.

China drew a redline and dared Obama to cross it.

To not sour the minimum relationship with the largest population in the world.

Why would we? Don't we have enough on our plate?
We can't liberate every population that is being oppressed.

Those people have been brain washed extensively. They couldn't comprehend freedom.

it's neither witty nor funny anymore. it's the equivalent of "bush lied people died" from the left in 2006.

1) no oil
2) would be expensive as shite. The citizens of North Korea are 10 times more brainwashed than any citizenry you can think of.
Watch this and you'll understand:

The scene where they are allowed access to a citizen's home is particularly telling. Every picture in the family' home is of the Great Leader - they have zero pictures of their own family. You ask them which one is their favorite - they say "all of them".
The film crew gained access by tagging along with an eye surgeon doing humanitarian work. In the end the village people come to get their bandages off, and they all thank the Great Leader - not they eye surgeon - that they can see. One lady gets her bandages off and proclaims "Thank you Great Leader! I will work in the coal mines much harder now".
Anyone in N Korea who can remember a time before communism (if you could call it that) is at least in their 60's now. The majority of N Koreans know no different way to live and believe the rest of the world are the crazy ones. Those among the older ones who would open their mouth to say otherwise have all been executed by now.

Chicken hawk Cheney wanted to invade. Which surprises me because they don't have oil.

I'm thinking Seoul would prefer to not be nuked off the face of the earth.

If N Korea is to fall I think it will be by an invasion of information. Problem is all their technology comes from the 40's. We could broadcast wifi over the whole country no one would learn anything from it.

Just because they don't have oil don't be fooled. They have some of the highest concentrations of rare earth minerals on earth.
And, we don't really know what oil/gas they have because they won't let anyone look for it.
Besides, the last time we liberated a country that was ruled by a brutal tyrant that was worshipped by his people it hasn't had such a good result thus far.

If the U.S. stuck first it could easily neutralize any N Korean missile sites.
Maybe THAT's the real reason - it would require nuclear warfare.
