I used to work with a guy from there and he said when he was in HS they had a segregated prom and he is only like 40.

I'm 43. My senior year at Marksville High, the best player on the football team was a black guy, his girlfriend, who was also black, was homecoming queen and a captain of the dance squad. She asked about going to the "private" prom and was told "Oh, you know y'all can't go to that!"

There was also a bar in the area that was notorious for serving white 15 and 16 year olds, but turning away black adults.

I don't miss living there.

Oddly enough, the only Marksville natives I've ever met were a mixed chick, an indian (feather), and a mexican.

I am 40. Assumption High School had a segregated prom in 1992. Every year there were only pictures of the black prom, which was the official school prom, in the yearbook.

Isn't Assumption High majority white?

This was still the case in the 2000's at St. Martinville.

If it's LP then why is the white population from BR migrating to that area? You sound like the white trash that lives in BR but doesn't have the income to live in LP. I have a house in The Willows in Denham Springs, but it's currently being rented. BTW, if it's white trash that raises the educational scores in La., then why complain? I'd rather be white trash that lives in an upper middle class subdivision in Denham than being a piece of white shite that lives in BR and doesn't have the income to get out. Where do you live in BR? Please don't mention a subdivision that is populated by wealth, because I have doctor and attorney friends in BR that live in those areas.

I worked in Donaldsonville until 1988. That town had a black and white prom along with a black and white public swimming pools. While I was working there, a black acquaintance of mine drowned. His body was discovered about fifteen minutes after he went under. The reason why he wasn't noticed to be a drowning victim was because the water was so filthy that the people who went there couldn't see anything below the water. BTW, after I left that hell hole, I was told that the white pool belonged to the country club.

Lake Hope is about 4 miles down the road from me.

Haven't been there in ages, last I heard it was no longer open to the public. It used to be a nice old swimming hole when I was in high school (mid to late 1970s), a lot of people we knew had camps there.

But yeah, I can imagine there were some truly bizarre sights to see, knowing how people are around here.

The best part of this sort of thread is all the butthurt from the Livingston Parish crowd.
