Back in grammar school we were asked to read Kon-Tiki, it was great for a youngster.

Had to read Watership Down in 8th grade at Jesuit. Remember enjoying the book. Don't recall caring for other stuff I read in high school.

Great thread.

Favorite: Most have already been mentioned but I'll throw in Bel Canto in the mix. Also, I had to read Band of Brothers which was a treat.

Least Favorite: The Awakening. I just remember it wreaked of feminism which didn't really resonate with a class of all boys in high school.
