built in to a countertop or stone, etc?
thinking of doing this to my patio and I had a stupid question. on the gas grills, online they have the really expensive ones that are made for the custom countertops and it just comes with the top part of the grill
my question is- can I just buy a middle of the road $500 or so grill from home depot and take the sides and bottom off? isn't that the same thing?
TIA

no. Those are designed to have airflow. You might find that they generate too much heat when closed in like they would be in a built in setting

I know the built-in grills are higher quality... a lot heavier than a stand alone grill.
I'm not sure about dimensions but the built-ins might also come in standard sizes like stoves. One thing I would worry about is if you ever had to replace it. The stand alone grills have dimensions all over the place so if you ever had to replace it in your counter (and you know those things rot away after a few years) then you might not find one that fit exactly like the old one.

I'd imagine if you bought a normal gas grill and took it a part, it's going to look like it was taken a part.

Charcoal grills do but you don't really need airflow w/ propane.

You must have missed the part about the OP only wanting to pay $500.

Well damn.... I like those rumble stones, although I dont want to use a cheap BBQ.
I got a Primo and want a gas grill too. Can do something good with both of those and a stone/granite top.

no go with a higher quality grill if its built in. you want it to withstand the elements and last a long long time. pain in the butt to change those out.

yes the grills come in standard sizes…28", 32" 34" 36"….etc...

Why would you want to go the cheap route on something that will be permanently built into your home.
That'd be like building a home with Chinese drywall to save a few bucks.
I'd rather spend $1000 on a grill with a lifetime warranty than $500 on one that id have to replace.

Only if covered, many outdoor kitchens I've seen are not covered or they have a pergola over them. Eventually weather exposure will cause you to replace the grill if not covered.

I'm having one installed right now. It's under a covered area but right by the edge of it so it will get wet when it rains some. It's built into a stone kitchen. I'm going to keep a grill cover on it when not in use.

Not only no.but he'll no, the grills you are looking at have drains in the bottom. Even if you plug them you will have massive grease fire due to the way they are set up inside. If you do not plug them grease will be running down into your casing. These grills are also set up to draw air in from the bottom. This is not a good idea

Budy of mine has nothing but Thermador all over his camp and a Viking in one of his "outdoor kitchens". Yes this is one of the outdoor kitchens with encasement windows and a commercial hood vent for the Viking grill.
BGE mounted in Granite counter and 55" tv in the other outdoor kitchen.

Good question. This is something I have thought about doing. My grill is a free standing $2k ss grill but same principle applies

What brand? Some are the same grill head, just put into a cart.
