Anyone else absolutely ecstatic and unable to contain their excitement?

Well maybe it's just me. And it probably has something to do with the fact that I just realize it's Saturday and not Monday. I don't know why I thought it was premiering on Monday.

Leading up to the premiere on Saturday BBCA has a Doctor Who marathon running. I just clicked over and they're currently playing "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead". This has to be one of my favorite episodes ever. Our first meeting with River Song is so emotionally charged and just as she should be. It's amazing. And the scene where Ms. Evangelista dies is heartwrenching. There's so much about these two episodes that sums up exactly why I love this show.

And they're followed by "Midnight". This might be my favorite trio of episodes in Doctor Who.

If you're a fellow Whovian, what's your favorite episode/story arc? Who's your favorite Doctor? Have you watched any Classic Who? (I've watched bits and pieces of Doctors 1-4. I actually love the 1st Doctor, Hartnell.)

Between Saturday night, LSU-Wisconsin next weekend and the Saints-Falcons the week after that, I can't wait like Bart Scott.

I've been a fan of the show since 83-84. It's strange to see how much the show has caught on in the U.S. I was wearing a Doctor Who T-shirt one day in the spring and these fairly cute high school girls were telling me "I like your shirt". You would have told me 30 years ago that fairly cute girls would eventually like Doctor Who, and I wouldn't have believed you.

It will be interesting to see how Capaldi does. Based on the couple of clips I've seen, it looks like this will be the closest we get to Hugh Laurie as the Doctor.

I think all the Doctors since 2005 have been excellent -- they've hit a home run every time with casting. I used to think David Tennant was possibly the best Doctor ever, but Matt Smith was even better. As far as classic Doctors go, Tom Baker is the gold standard. I like Pertwee and McCoy quite a bit. Davison was let down by terrible writing (Human Nature/The Family of Blood was on yesterday evening. Peter Davison would have KILLED IT had that been a Fifth Doctor story.) Colin Baker was let down by terrible writing and a worse costume. I've tried to get into Troughton, because everyone raves about him, but those old slow black and white episodes are a chore to watch.

Is this a show I can just jump into without any background info or having never watched an episode?

I watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 last night cause Im looking for a new show... They weren't great to me. Is this a show that I should look into if I didn't really enjoy the first two? I love science fiction shows normally and i liked the idea, just didn't love it...

around the time of the 50th anniversary (Nov 23, 2013) my gf agreed that the first episode I showed her (the first 10th Doctor episode) was pretty good and we should keep going. I was very excited and told her we need to get her caught up before the 12th Doctor gets here. Through starts and stops I can happily say that last night we watched The Name of The Doctor, The Day of The Doctor, and The Time of The Doctor. A gutbusting 1-2-3 punch I've been looking forward to since christmas. And with 3 days to spare!

Getting my own personal Who celebration out of the way...ha. I'm still a 10 guy, though 11 grew on me and 9 is ok in my book. I've watched a handful of classic Who, but not enough to say I deserve an opinion on it. My favorite episodes are Human Nature/The Family of Blood. Really got to me how the Doctor learned his true separation from humanity by becoming one and having to turn back again. Very emotional ending. And I've said it before, and not afraid to admit: I cried like a baby when Ten regenerated, that whole last 15 minutes or so...whew...of course, it was probably helped by the red wine... Very frickity much looking forward to Doctor Malcolm Tucker too!

Probably blink, although city of death is a close second.
My favorite doctor is tough to call. Probably 10 but I really enjoy 11. Tom baker though is tough to top. I think 9 could have been truly great with more than 1 season.

Classic who I've really enjoyed so far:
City of death
The cave of andronazi
The talons of weng chiang
Genesis of the daleks
These are top overall arcs

Also liked:
Pyramid of mars
Three doctors
Spearhead from space

Favorite new series:
Blink
Empty child / doctor dances
Silence in the library
Waters of mars
The girl who waited
The day of the doctor
Eleventh hour
Vincent and the doctor
Midnight
Angels take manhattan
42
Rings of akhaten
Girl in the fireplace
Impossible astronaut
Doctors wife

I'm thrilled about Capaldi as the Doctor, so I'm very excited.

I'm guessing based on your last question that the first 2 are about New-Who.

So:

Family of Blood 2 parter

Blink

The Library 2 parter

The Doctor Dances 2 parter

Midnight

Vincent and the Doctor

A Good Man Goes to War

50th

(personal reasons) Cold War and Asylum of the Daleks

Tennant (scroll for my +Classic rankings)

A ton. Hated Pertwee. The only one I didn't like at all.

My list (to piss people off again):
quote:

Davison
Tennant
Troughton
T. Baker
McCoy
C. Baker
Smith
Hartnell
McGann (based only on length)
Ecclestone
Pertwee

To piss more people off:

A Nightmare in Silver is the first and only time the Cybermen have been scary/threatening.

Amy Pond is the worst New-Who Companion. The worst Classic is Romana II

Damn, that would be really tough to choose. I can rewatch any of them without getting bored of the show. Rewatched Bad Wolf today, still amazing. Return of The Master as well, both times. All of the Matt Smith story arch's were amazing and masterful in almost every way.

Tennant and Smith, with maybe a slight edge for Smith. It's actually funny because I never though anybody could beat out Tennant so I didn't even watch the Smith reincarnation till about a year after it aired. Nothing against Eccelston either. His portrayal of The Doctor is what got me hooked on the show.

Not really. Maybe I will one day, but I pretty much grew up just watching the renewal of the show.

sidenote: I do hope Strax is in the new show.

So I love me some Dr Who as well. But I've always been confused as to if I am caught up or not.

I am currently watching the last 2 episodes on netflix that were both just added.

Does this catch me fully up?

I started with the 9th doctor, but Tennant was my favorite.

Couldn't stand Rose or Amy.

My favorite episode was Waters of Mars.

Just watched this on DVR tonight. Wow it started off fricking slow. Real slow. It finally got rolling and was good. I still don't fully understand wtf is going on, but I'm getting into it.

Also, it seems it was a big deal about the lizard lady's lesbian kiss with her wife. Was I the only one strangely aroused by this?

Only pic I could find....
