Misleading thread title is misleading. She was suspended for breaking class rules and then arguing with the teacher. Maybe the other student didn't appreciate having her religious beliefs shoved down their throat.
Saying "bless you" after a sneeze, or ever is hardly shoving beliefs down one's throat.

Superintendent Chalmers: Thank the Lor-- thank the Lord? That sounded like a prayer. A prayer. A prayer in a public school! God has no place within these walls, just like facts have no place within organized religion.

Did this kinda shite happen back in the 80's and 90's before our country got completely fricked over?
This is just silly.

A girl I had just met sneezed, so I said "God bless you." She then tells me she's atheist and I should say "bless you" I looked at her again and said "God bless you." My faith so I will present that how I want.
Reminds me of a story I heard.
Man opens up door for woman.
Woman says I'm don't need you to open door for me I'm feminist.
Man says I didn't open it up for you bc you are a woman I opened it bc I'm a gentleman.
Same story here.
This group people today that get offended about everything are the fricking worst.
Thank god I don't live/work among any.

This teacher needs to be count-punched.

Does the teacher allow the pledge of allegiance to be recited in the classroom?

Yeah and trumps the Constitution
This isn't a constitutional issue. This isn't a religious rights issue. If she was reading her Bible during some silent reading time and someone told her she could not, THAT kind of thing would be. If the rule was put in place to keep talking to a minimum, simply hiding under the fact that the words spoken were religious in nature is not a cover.
Besides...which is it? Others here have said it's not a religious thing...and yet some want to argue it's her constitutional right. To what? Overt politeness?

Not all but so many teachers have inferiority complexes and they let them come full circle around kids......kids.....and you know they get off to a near sexual level by enforcing these complexes on these kids

None of this shite happened in the 80's! Paddling was still going on! Fear and respect was still in the classroom.
I find it hard to believe that this black woman doesn't ever say, "Have a Blessed Day."

Wait, you think the 80s and 90s were better than today?

There is almost certainly more to the story here.

Again...in what way is this a violation of that when many here are suggesting saying "Bless you" is not religious?
Secondly, the fact that words can be seen as religious in nature is in no way cover to blurt them out whenever you want. If this rule was put in place, and given the fact that there is a whole host of other things they can't say in class, to keep order, enforcing it is not some heinous religious rights issue.
shite...I have a MUCH bigger problem with banning "I don;t know" than "Bless you." I don;t know is an honest answer EVERYONE should be willing to give when faced with a question they do not have an answer for.

Got to be more to it. If it turns into a "bless you" party after anyone in the class sneezes then I can see how it can get distracting for the teacher.
