There's no way that she was SUSPENDED only for this. Suspensions are handled by administration, and administration wouldn't go that far without reasoning beyond breaking a silly classroom rule.

I used to work at a place that did group prayers before meetings. I didn't care for it, but I just didn't participate. Continued with my work through it.

Based on that list, it looks to be either slang words/expressions, stuff which could be said out loud and disrupt the class without being called on, and stuff she thinks (I think wrongly) makes students look unprepared...namely "I don't know."
As for the teacher, at the risk of profiling here...I find it VERY hard to believe some middle aged black woman is some vile anti-theist enforcing her godless rules on a classroom. I know none of you religious folks have ever met such a person, and I can say straight up that even in my own "atheist circles" it's rare to run across a black atheist and even rarer a woman. A middle aged black female atheist? I'd have better luck looking for a two headed unicorn.
But then again...I don't know for sure. She may very well be reading Dawkins between classes, but I HIGHLY doubt it.

If you want someone to thank for these hard lines being drawn, you can thank the jerkoff types that have repeatedly used valedictorian speeches and other secular, public platforms to espouse polarizing religious beliefs.

I tend to agree...but this assumes her banning this is religious in nature. Given there is a whole list of things students are told not to say in class, and only one of them has anything at all to do with religion, I'd say she has other reasons...as bad as they may be.
Setting it up as two sides of an issue gives those looking to suggest it's a religious issue ammo...much like the girl seemed to want. Given the list, it's far more likely she set up this list for other reasons, and someone felt the need to argue with her and attempt to play the "You're opposing my religious rights" card. Given she had already discussed this with her youth pastor, it seems pretty clear she was hoping to get either the teacher to back down or a reaction like this.

Can I ask a favor? Can we at least all start on common ground here?
Can we come to an agreement as to whether saying "Bless you" or "God bless you" is religious or not? Many here seem to argue it's only a saying and is no longer religious at all. Others argue (this girl specifically and many here) that this issue is about religious rights and start popping off about the Constitution.
Well...which is it?
I think if we can at least agree to the nature of the statement, then we can have an honest discussion. Until then, it's moving targets.
