Either his sponsor or his crisis team is probably conducting clandestine polls. Maybe a few focus groups that aren't clandestine. If he's not racing, then it's because his crisis team has told him not to, IMO.

He doesn't want to race. He is grieving. Kevin Ward died. Tony Stewart contributed to his death. Smoke made the final decision. The sponsors are supporting smoke in his decisions. He if chose to race they would support.
New contract negotiations are different and will be discussed after the season. My personal opinion is that no sponsors will be lost. The sponsor brand logo has been all over the place in the last week.

I really don't know what actually happened on the track; nobody really does. I do know this: Within 4 hours of killing a man Tony Stewart said it was his intention to race the next day. His Team said "business as usual". The next morning he said he would not race. I think that is because by that time he had a crisis team in place and they told him that racing would be a PR nightmare that he would not recover from.
