The lakes scheduled for drawdown include Kepler, Mill Creek, Bistineau, Bussey Brake, Cheniere, Louis, Hardwater, Chicot, False River, Henderson, Black-Clear, Grand Bayou, Clear-Smithport and Saline.

quote:

The False River drawdown is part of an ongoing attempt to aid the troubled lake's recovery. The lake will be dropped about 2 1/2 feet, Wood said, and workers will dredge a section of it that has seen habitat degradation caused by siltation.

quote:

The silt that is dredged up will be used to create a 16-acre island that will add edge habitat to the lake.

That's going to be a good thing. Lake's habitat is too monotonous.

Bistineau and Clear-Smithport are draining as we speak, I did not know Grand Bayou was doing a drawdown...

I want my land back. Dumb asses dug a drainage canal that runs thru my place that drains into False River. The ditch before hand was dug back in the 1930's CCC program and was about 10' wide, 4' deep. After those assholes came to redig, the canal is 50'+ wide and 15+' deep. Now it's a good 80' wide and growing every rain.

They succeeded in drawing Busey Brake down. You can walk across it in your brogans.

They were about to do this to Lake Bistineau a few weeks ago when we were there. I believe the current pics on Google maps are from another time it was drained. Intersting stuff. I'd like to see pics of it happening if anyone has them.

I was watching a TV show the other day where a lake in Florida had a cave open underneath it and it drained like a bathtub. The locals were picking up 10+lb largemouth out of the last bit of water left in the lake like it was nothing. Filling up the ice chest.

Surprised Grand Bayou is on that list. Hope it doesn't hurt the fishing, that place was on fire last spring.

Henderson

Was there this past weekend. Struggled to find water over 3' deep. The water line on the trees was 3 or 4 feet above the water. Vegetation was horrible.

my aunt and her family were talking about the drawdown for false this summer. they're excited about it. they've got plans for cleaning up the flat in front of their camp. beer bottles, broken glass, two large stumps, etc.

Cheniere

You want to bring out the crazies in West Ouachita, just discuss the drawdown on Cheniere Lake.

They will call dad at all hours of the night about this. Bunch of old men that don't want that fishery to get better because they don't want more people wanting to fish "their" lake. That late is full of cypress and tupelo gum and when the OPPJ got money to cut canoe (and ka lanes the same crazies got mad about that.

It is the only lake other than Toledo Bend that has it's own dedicated fish nursery and has it's own dedicated group of crazies that try to fight any improvements to it.
